What to do in week before Christmas- short break?

I'm lucky enough to finish work on the 17th December and have 2 weeks off (teacher). Kids are 11 and 8 so too old for Santa's activities. Thinking of a short break somewhere... or a day out. We live in the South. Any ideas please?

Should also add, DH is a grumpy git and hates festive activities Grin

Based on my own interests, I’d go to London and see a couple of shows at the theatre, a couple of museums and nice food.

Sounds fab @Twilightstarbright I love the theatre.

I'm tempted to press the fuck it button and book flights somewhere but possibly covid would get in the way or one of us would be ill so I'm a bit cautious. Love the idea of jetting off though.

Has anyone been to the Manor House Ashbury?

Tricky one. I suppose you need really good insurance but there’s also the emotional disappointment of looking forward to something and having it potentially ruined by covid.

I’d book somewhere on the coast . A hotel with a pool.

You could check any holiday places like Sandy Balls in the New Forest or similar ones with indoor pools and activities.

Depending where exactly you are you could think of Chester. Or a bit further like York?

Edinburgh is lovely just before Christmas though I think I would opt for London

PurBal · 01/11/2021 08:17

Bath including the Christmas Market and a carol service at Bath Abbey?

WisestIsShe · 01/11/2021 08:21

A friend of mine is off to Budapest. The flights were only £17. She's going to the opera, ice skating etc. Flies home on Christmas Eve, skins lovely to me.

We're going to Copenhagen! 17th-22nd ish. It looks sooooo magical but can't actually recommend it yet I guess!

We went to Manor House lots as kids, it's sooooo awesome! Can't wait for my kids to be old enough. We went to Okehampton though.

Ice skating, Christmas markets, Frankfurt is supposed to be beautiful

WakeUpLockie · 01/11/2021 08:26

Sorry just checked the website - we went to Manor House as opposed to Ashbury, they're both Okehampton it seems!

reluctantbrit · 01/11/2021 11:36

@girlmom21 Frankfurt has a nice market but the town is full as he. And I say that as someone who spent a decent amount in there over the years and has colleagues who won’t consider living there at all.
Cologne is better or Munich.
