Never ending stomach bug :(

Likely tmi. Sorry.

I have had diarrhoea now for a week. There have been two phases- firstly, going to the loo every half an hour with terrible stomach cramps and actually feeling unwell- shivery/needing to sleep etc This lasted for 48 hrs. Then phase 2, which is needing to go to the loo a bit less frequently (but still at least once an hour) and the same terrible stomach cramps and feeling under the weather but not shivery and like I must sleep for hours and hours during waking hours. This has now gone on for 5 days.

I had to miss work on Friday, and I can't work tomorrow either because of needing to dash to the loo all the time and having excruciating cramps in between.

I don't know why I'm posting really. I know you lot can't do anything!

But...7 days of it. A regular domestic loo is just not designed to accept such high frequency/volume of 💩 and I stupidly didn't stockpile loo roll during lockdown 1 so have no reserves to fall back on.

I had those symptoms plus a low grade temperature when I had covid last month.

You poor thing. Replying to help bump your post so you get some advice x

DentalWorries · 31/10/2021 23:12

I had these symptoms with campylobacter. After about 4 days I went to A&E and was kept in for two nights. I would definitely seek some help after a week, surely you must be very dehydrated by now.

That sounds horrendous, you poor thing. Can you get someone to bring you extra supplies of loo roll, and maybe some moist wipes too, you must be getting very sore? I think maybe you should call 111 for advice, perhaps they might suggest Immodium (which again someone could bring you). Hope it clears up soon!

RobertClementHughes · 31/10/2021 23:23

@DentalWorries I am managing lots of glugs of water, and don't think I'm dehydrated- but I didnt when pregnant either and had hyperemesis and was in hospital lots then too on a drip so maybe I should see my dr.

Thank you @1AngelicFruitCake, as a single parent there is nobody here to be kind like that and it really is appreciated! Flowers

@StarStarTeachMe I did wonder about covid and have done 3x lfts this week, but all negative.

It's really pissing me off now!

Being a single parent and feeling so ill must be so hard, you’re doing amazingly! Can you order toilet paper on Amazon? We have a covid helpline for our area with volunteers, there must be a way of getting someone to buy some for you.
Hope you feel better soon x

Nyfluff · 01/11/2021 05:09

I had this for 10 days pre covid, nowhere did quick delivery then and I was also alone with ill DC. Luckily now there are a lot more delivery options available, from next day slots available at Asda to same day Morrisons via Amazon, hourly from deliveroo and uber eats. I'm in a village nowhere near a city but I imagine they have even more options.

My GP wasn't at all phased by the duration or severity and said it had to run it's course. I would ring them for an urgent appointment so you can be triaged as they may be able to help.

Lifeispassingby · 01/11/2021 05:27

My colleague has been off work for 3 weeks with something similar, the GP suspected something more but turns out to be just a really nasty long lasting stomach bug

Snoods · 01/11/2021 05:32

Hi OP. Just checking, at the start did you have any severe abdominal pain? My DM was similar but severe pain at first for hour or 2. She actually had burst appendix.

RobertClementHughes · 01/11/2021 07:12

My mum is popping some more loo roll round later so I have that bit sorted!

I think I will ring the doctors surgery this morning and see if I can get a phone appointment with someone.

The pain is pretty consistent @Snoods, comes in waves along with stomach cramps culminating in a bout of diarrhoea. So I don't think its appendicitis.

Does coincide with a period though so thats nice! Yay! Grin

After a week I think you should seek medical advice.

It could be anything, could you have developed an intolerance to something?

Bluntness100 · 01/11/2021 07:49

I had this a few weeks ago, it went on for three weeks, I went to the doctor and she gave me antibiotics which cleared it up pretty immediately. Seemed it was an infection in my gut,

emmaluggs · 01/11/2021 07:54

I had this 2 years ago turns out it was giardia, no idea where I got that from and needed a course of antibiotics. Definitely worth seeing the dr after a week

RobertClementHughes · 01/11/2021 14:01

I don't think there's an intolerance but can't be sure. Am sending off a cheery little poo sample to the Dr shortly, so glamorous! Advice from the nurse practitioner I spoke to was to continue sticking to BRAT foods and dioralyte until result is back.

As nobody else has it I don't think it's a bug though, the lucky lab techs will get to find out haha!

Sorry others have had similar, it really is miserable Flowers

No one else in my house had it either op, was a gut infection. I am not sure what it was though as didn’t call to get the results of the poo samples as the antibiotics knocked it on the head.

Silkieschickens · 01/11/2021 15:17

I have had this for 6 weeks and they said it was covid and long covid plus viral gastroenterisis, had to have a drip in hospital but not much they can do. I am now sticking to quite a bland diet, currently can tolerate elderflower cordial, meat, brocolli, carrots, spinach, fish, rice, bread but no dairy, no spicy, no hot drinks, no fatty food. Never had anything lasting anything like this long before.
