Catcalling - why do men do it?

Just that really.

I was out and about today with my 14 month old. Took him to the playground and treated myself to a nice hot chocolate from Costa on our way back. Was minding my own business, pushing the pushchair, enjoying the sunshine and all of a sudden there was a guy shouting stuff from his car at me. Some sort of sexually suggestive stuff, although I didn't understand the details. I kept on going and ignored him like he was air, so he was driving slower to get my attention until he gave up.

2 minutes later there was another car and the driver was shouting some sort of insult about my appearance (again, I didn't quite get the details).

I'm not 100 % sure if it was the same driver or a completely different car, but both were grey cars. They came from different directions though.

I wasn't wearing anything particulary sexy, just a hoodie and some leggings.

On top of that I'm pregnant at the moment, so I'm not the thinnest.

I'm not saying women in sexy/revealing clothes deserve to be harassed, there is no justification for it at all.

I just look super normal and there really is no reason why I should catch the attention of random guys in the street.

After it happened I was a bit shaken up and I asked myself, why do some men do that?

What do they get out of humiliating women and cowardly shouting things at them from a moving car?
