Thanks, Prok. It did come out nicely. The way the stone structure reflects so perfectly in the water is really something.
We had a light bulb burn out in the master bathroom recently in a fixture that is recessed into the ceiling. It is apparently quite a challenge to replace the bulb, and when DH tried he discovered that we were out of that particular bulb, so had to order some from Amazon. He finally got it fixed last night.
Champagne, is his dressing gown of doom at the ready, just in case? It's possible that he's had an asymptomatic case and never noticed, which certainly takes the fun out of it.
I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts (Aaron Manke's Cabinet of Curiosities, which I highly recommend) and it told a bit of interesting British history. The City of London has been paying the Crown rent on two parcels of land for the last 800 years. The payment is in the form of knives, horseshoes and nails. The payments continue to this day.
The Ceremony of Quit Rents
This seems a bit batty to me, but very quaint.
The word "Exchecker" comes from the fact that the "Remembrancer" who took the payments did so on a table with a checkered tablecloth, on which he recorded the payments in the squares, rather like a cloth spreadsheet.
