Oh dear prok Shock Fingers crossed for you.

Our big boss had just tested positive so it will be interesting to see how that pans out.

DH (who positively relishes an ailment and catches a far worse strain of every germ floating about) has remained stubbornly Covid free throughout, while people around him drop like flies. It's not that he's in any way wishing he had it, but I think a small part of him is a bit gutted he's not got a mild strain that prevents him from leaving the house but in no way impinges on his tv watching and pottering around the garden activities Hmm

MissConductUS · 18/11/2021 19:50

Thanks, Prok. It did come out nicely. The way the stone structure reflects so perfectly in the water is really something.

We had a light bulb burn out in the master bathroom recently in a fixture that is recessed into the ceiling. It is apparently quite a challenge to replace the bulb, and when DH tried he discovered that we were out of that particular bulb, so had to order some from Amazon. He finally got it fixed last night.

Champagne, is his dressing gown of doom at the ready, just in case? It's possible that he's had an asymptomatic case and never noticed, which certainly takes the fun out of it.

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts (Aaron Manke's Cabinet of Curiosities, which I highly recommend) and it told a bit of interesting British history. The City of London has been paying the Crown rent on two parcels of land for the last 800 years. The payment is in the form of knives, horseshoes and nails. The payments continue to this day.

The Ceremony of Quit Rents

This seems a bit batty to me, but very quaint. Smile

The word "Exchecker" comes from the fact that the "Remembrancer" who took the payments did so on a table with a checkered tablecloth, on which he recorded the payments in the squares, rather like a cloth spreadsheet.

Champagne Grin

Luckily I am stuck in our bedroom (DH has spent the last few days in his office next door bc. deadline) where all my books and craft supplies are, tomorrow I'll put my desktop PC in here and can continue to work, too.

Silkieschickens · 18/11/2021 19:59

Sorry to hear you have covid Prok Hope you are not too unwell with it. I got my results from in hospital a month ago today which said as well as covid I had campylobacter, it said if have badly take antibiotics, would have been useful to know that before 1 month. Hmm

Been in talks with DDs school last couple of days as DD has been struggling, took a while to make progress but getting there. Bit like negiotating a peace agreement after a war and I could really do without it but needed to get it sorted so things are better for rest of year. She was back in today and came back happy, still 3 mocks to do but over by Monday.

Hospital tomorrow morning, think its just the one meeting and treatment plan. Got to arrange dentist as well.

That sounds stressfuk Helena hope went OK.

Beautiful and theraputic photos MissC

Having steak baguette for dinner.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/11/2021 20:13

Silkie Thanks. And steak baguette sounds tasty.

DS grades have - oops, the marten is back stomping about on the ceiling - improved. He is getting 1s and 2s (1 = exceeds expectations to a high degree, 4 = sufficient - anything from 4,1 onwards to 6 is a fail). So there is hope for him.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/11/2021 20:40

Hi all.

Lovely photo @MissConductUS.

All the best @Silkieschickens for tomorrow.

Been a busy busy week this week. Been chasing funding for some children I’ll have in January who have Additional Learning Needs. It’s crazy the process to get what these children vitally need. I know I’m technically on maternity leave but I can’t leave the children with AlN floating in the system.

MissConductUS · 18/11/2021 20:59

Best of luck tomorrow Silkie. Let us know how it goes.

Lemons, when my DS was in primary school he was classified as needing additional support because of his language delay. That classification got the school district extra funding from the state automatically, which is great. But it turned out to be a problem when we wanted to mainstream him. The school district fought us tooth and nail because the extra money had already been included in their budgets.

We had to get him independently tested and have a Ph.D. educational psychologist meet with them to prove that the additional support was no longer needed and was actually holding him back. The first thing they did was to challenge her credentials. She's a tenured professor at Columbia University. It was a really odd situation.

Lemonsandlemonade · 18/11/2021 21:13

@MissConductUS in Wales where I am there is a reform of ALN which in theory is great with early intervention being the key, in practice it’s become even harder to get extra support as in my authority the powers feel with the right training you should be able to cope with the child who needs support which leaves you fighting for help. It’s very frustrating and in two hours I have achieved very little but now have a better understanding of the system. ( This is whilst my DS napped).

That sounds awful re not accepting a professional’s opinion - that happens here too!

MissConductUS · 18/11/2021 21:25

They did go along eventually. I think they were concerned about their potential legal liability once it was shown that they were not acting in his best interests. DH did mention the word "attorney" once or twice. Grin

There are lawyers here who specialize in educational law, but they are usually brought in to force a school to provide additional support, not end it. State law requires the schools to provide "a sound and appropriate education", which included additional support for those who need it.

You can buy a big enough deep fryer to fry a whole turkey in, Prok. They look like small metal barrels with electrical wires.

Hoping your + test is a blip.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 19/11/2021 01:59

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

zzTop The size of turkey you all are talking about - how would you do this? Let's think this through ....

And who is now waiting for PCR results? Home test yesterday negative, this morning as positive as it is possible to get.

I just read some more and apparently it's too unsafe and messy to do in the garage, and you need to allow a huge splatter zone even if you do it in the garden.

Part of me is still tempted just so I can say I've tried it, but realistically I'm far too sensible :-)

Hope you feel OK Prok.

mathanxiety · 19/11/2021 02:03

Lovely photos, MissC. I wonder what that structure once was.

We have really cold weather here. The temperature dropped about 30 degrees F from morning to evening yesterday.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/11/2021 08:03

ZZTop
When I was still living in the then "British occupational zone" we occasionally recieved their TV with lots of explicit warning adds about frying pans.
So you would definitely need fire protection gear, a big enough kitchen blanket and lots of absorbant material. You'd preferably remove the car as cleaning grease of varnish seems to be difficult...

Nydj · 19/11/2021 09:01

Sending positive vibes your way today @Silkieschickens.

Absolutely gorgeous photos @MissConductUS

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, if you definitely have COVID, I hope the symptoms are mild and you make a quick recovery.

Apologies for livening things up but I plan to pressure wash the patio today. I always think it will take no more than a couple of hours but drag my dirt splattered self back in about five hours later. I have also soaked some ranunculus ‘claws’(?) for planting but I think I was being too optimistic and will be exhausted after the patio cleaning but let us see.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/11/2021 09:23

Nydj There are some lovely pressure washing videos on YT - mostly old industrial buildings - very soozing - if you do not have to do it yourself. Smile

I was told to expect my PCR results from 5pm onwards - I have what 2 years ago would have been a mild seasonal cold.

MissConductUS · 19/11/2021 11:54

Lovely photos, MissC. I wonder what that structure once was.

Math, that body of water is a 150 year old reservoir that is still in use today. I suspect the structure has something to do with how they draw water out of it. It is odd that there are plants growing out of the top.

I'm really looking forward to Thanksgiving week and DS coming home tomorrow. Smile

Back from hospital, unfortunately pretty bad news and found another lump as well as they think first one is over 5cm and think new lump is by lymph mode. They are doing mri and ct to check if spread as have rib and hip pain, said if it has its incurable but treatable and if its not its curableand will stage after surgery but sounded like its either stage 3 or stage 4.

HelenaJustina · 19/11/2021 17:40

@Prokupatuscrakedatus your comment about how your illness would have classed two years ago really made me chuckle. It’s so true. I felt under the weather for two days, and really rough for one. At some point (I suspect Spring) I think legally mandated isolation periods will be shortened or removed. Our case rate is rocketing in school at the moment which makes me very glad that I’m double jabbed and have had a bout recently.

Hope all went okay today @Silkieschickens

HelenaJustina · 19/11/2021 17:41

Oh cross posted @Silkieschickens I’m so sorry it wasn’t better news. What is the next step?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/11/2021 18:02

@Silkieschickens - I am sorry, that is shit news

(It will not help you right now - but my DM was pronounced incurable and she had 10 more years with us)

@HelenaJustina
Results are not in yet, if positive it is 10 days for me, nothing for DC (more tests obviously) and isolation for DH (non-vacc. - yes I know, but his decision)

Lemonsandlemonade · 19/11/2021 18:08

@Silkieschickens am sorry such shit news. Hope you’re doing as ok as you can.

Silkieschickens · 19/11/2021 19:12

Thanks, I was expecting bad news but still horrible to get it. Mri and ct scan in next week or two then surgery then to be decided but talked of chemo, radio, and Tamxofen, that is the curable treatment plan. Lobular breast cancer which just looked up and apparently lump comes at late stage, starts like spiders web. Both schools know though ds does not.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/11/2021 20:31

silkies Flowers

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/11/2021 20:38

Result is in after 28,5 h - positive.
There will be a pdf to download, but it is not yet ready.

HelenaJustina · 19/11/2021 20:46

Hopefully symptoms stay light @Prokupatuscrakedatus! Good luck… will you isolate away from everyone else in the house?
