Never had this happen before. Have they moved Halloween? Small dressed up child with adult in tow. Yes my house is decorated but pumpkin not lit as it is not Halloween yet!

Lots doing it here tonight as tomorrow is Sunday night

RainbowConnection1 · 30/10/2021 19:51

In our town of Halloween falls on a Sunday the kids ALWAYS go out on the Saturday instead. It's always been the same and it's so Halloween isn't being celebrated on the sabbath.

Heartofglass12345 · 30/10/2021 19:51

I wfh and I had one turn up in the middle of the day the other day, on his bike with no costume on. I said it's not even Halloween yet, chancer Grin

I've had 7 so far, OP. I feel your pain.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 30/10/2021 19:54

I had one a fortnight early once. Apparently she (approx 10 yrs) was going away on holiday over Halloween so she was "having to come early". She did not get sweets but I did my best to look like I sympathized with her predicament Grin

@SinoohXaenaHide I don't know what the Beeb is thinking, I'm a huge Dr Who fan but I'll have to avoid it and watch later (instead of pausing it every 2 mins to open the door). It's not ideal Tardis

Ahh, makes sense.

We’ve had covid and have only just been released from isolation. Not well enough yet to go shopping. House in darkness and we’ve still had knocks from the little ones - not people we know, although the children have an adult with them.

The signal round here is a lit pumpkin outside, otherwise it’s not done to knock (lots of elderly/inform).

Lovely to see them out but we still need to be left alone to recover.

MushMonster · 30/10/2021 19:58

Got none today. Bit I got sweets and I actually dressed up and make up today.
Tomorrow I will be cooking the pumpkin, so not sure I will have time

Triphazards · 30/10/2021 19:58

In this part of Scotland, you don't go guising on the Sabbath, so it's tonight.

Yeah same.
soundsystem · 30/10/2021 20:01

My mum tries to make us do this one year when Halloween was on a Sunday. For vaguely religious reasons.

doodleygirl · 30/10/2021 20:01

Does it really matter, open your door, hand out sweeties, smile.

Littlemisspissypants · 30/10/2021 20:05

I was expecting them tonight. Tomorrow is a school night. I guess I'll hold off on eating all the sweets myself...

SpookyS · 30/10/2021 20:06

Because Sunday is The Lord's day? Grin

FindingMeno · 30/10/2021 20:07

I saw lots of littlies out earlier looking so excited and with fabulous outfits on!

TheChosenTwo · 30/10/2021 20:12

I filled the bowl earlier and the dc put their pumpkins outside tonight with candles in. We’ve had 2 groups knocking.
Doesn’t bother me, we’re home and I was expecting it, weather is meant to be atrocious here tomorrow. Just don’t answer the door and turn off any lights in the front or shut your curtains if you don’t want anyone to know you’re home! Disconnect your doorbell, whatever Grin

RandomDent · 30/10/2021 20:14

We went out because it’s supposed to be gales and monsoon weather tomorrow. It was pretty quiet though.

ooft · 30/10/2021 20:16

Traditionally it's not been done on a Sunday due to it being bad luck/Gods day, but everyone seems to ignore that rule now

NoLeafClover · 30/10/2021 20:20

Yeah it's a bit weird, trick or treating tonight, when I was little (late 80s/early 90s) it was always Hallowe'en night, regardless if it was a school night. It's not like we'd be out until midnight. Though I just wish we got trick or treaters at all, I absolutely love Hallowe'en and last year we had literally one group of three kids. Was left with lots of little bags of Haribo and Banshee Bones Grin

nicky2512 · 30/10/2021 20:25

Unfortunately I have started eating the sweets myself so by tomorrow night there might not be many left. Oops!
Now I remember why I used to only buy stuff I don’t like.

maofteens · 30/10/2021 20:26

No one here tonight as it's not Halloween. Though to be fair, if it fell on any other day the majority of kids would still be on half term. But I'm still not a late night thing so don't get why people think they can do it early.

liveforsummer · 30/10/2021 20:26

Halloween is frequently a school night - not sure why it's different just because it's a Sunday rather than a Wednesday. You don't then go out on the previous Saturday or following Friday . Will definitely ignore the door tonight

StartSelect · 30/10/2021 20:28

When I was a child we all went out the 2 nights leading up to Halloween and the night itself. These days though it seems to be just Halloween itself, I wouldn’t be bothered if kids turned up tonight though

BeeDavis · 30/10/2021 20:31

@anormalperson

Oh jeez , about to take mine out for reasons mentioned up thread , weather / school night 😬
It’s on a school night most years 🥴 sorry but it’s the 31st, not the day before.
EventOfTheSeason · 30/10/2021 20:32

I'm a bit confused by the early visitors but it's nice to get them knocking (we just moved to the area and we used to live in a flat). I've nearly run out of sweets!
