Bradawl (for the pattern)
Cake checking skewer (for the holes)
Steak knife
Pumpkin sword from one of those cheapy sets
Craft knife
Metal cuticle pusher...

There must be an easier way to achieve this effect of scraped out bits...

Grapefruit knife was deployed fairly successfully here Grin

To be fair those tools are probably more effective than those cheap plastic 'pumpkin carving kits' you can pick up in the supermarkets

lucysmam · 30/10/2021 15:32

Diving, I don't have a grapefruit knife...yet 🤔

South they are quite a good selection tbh! I've never done a proper fancy ish pattern before & they're working alright for such a random assortment of things to use.

I bought some carving tools from amazon no idea what half of them do but they did a good job and will come in handy next year

FelicityBeedle · 30/10/2021 16:02

I use my miniature Swiss Army knife for the peeled bits, it’s tiny and perfect. For the main cutting I use a tiny saw I got in a kit years ago

Oops forgot the pic

I have no craft skills whatsoever but I was quite pleased with how well my cheapy supermarket carving kit worked.

I was about to recommend that. I stole my parents unused grapefruit knife when I moved into my own place just for pumpkin carving. The double edged teeth where so much easier to use that the pumpkin carving sets where the blade always breaks off the handle.
Alfr · 30/10/2021 16:10

I haven't done one for years, now that the boy is a man, but when I did, i did the majority with a power drill and a very thin drill bit, then used a craft knife to finish it off

Oblomov21 · 30/10/2021 16:11

Loving the pictures! Grin

IkaBaar · 30/10/2021 16:12

DH is currently using a scalpel for ours. In previous years he had employed power tools!

lucysmam · 30/10/2021 16:19

I'm going to have a google when we've made pizzas. Scalpel sounds like a good idea...it might be more delicate than the cuticle pusher and craft knife combo 🤔

Anywho...I'm rediculously pleased with my pumpkin

Oh wow that's amazing Halloween Shock

Cuck00soup · 30/10/2021 17:42

Loving the designs, keep them coming! I'm an enthusiastic crafter/bodger and I'm always very jealous of people with proper artistic talent.

I can confirm that A metal Ice cream scoop is great for getting flesh out.

Wildernesstips · 30/10/2021 18:46

Love it. A Lino cutter set would probably work well. Mine is just a plastic handle with multi changeable blades.

lucysmam · 30/10/2021 19:05

That's what I used Cuck00, slightly too enthusiastically Blush. I nicked a hole in the back that I've artfully plugged with the nose cut out bit!

I'll have a look at lino cutter sets too, thanks Wilderness.
