Would you like to help me choose a rubbish costume?

N/C because this is a teeny bit outing.
I’m going to a Halloween dance tonight with one of my best friends. It’s in her village in a little pub, but is the first time in a long time we’ve gone “out” out.

I thought that there would be some element of costume, but it turns out there is an actual competition. No I’m raking through my own clothes looking for a costume to put together.
My three options are
A) a red velvet dress and slouchy boots and a headscarf as rubbish lady pirate
B) a purple silk paisley dress and my friend’s toddlers witches hat as “sub par witch”, also with the boots.
C) A dress with Edinburgh Castle and fire works printed on it, with a light up headband (or a hairband with Poundland LED lights wrapped round it) and go as the Edinburgh Tattoo (and also giant cop out)

All input appreciated in this, the most trivial of threads.

A red velvet dress also leans towards ‘sexy devil’ with some horns and a tail, potentially option 3!

TheGirlWhoLived · 30/10/2021 13:51

I quite like the pirate idea though. If you have a yellow t-shirt and a pinafore you could go as the red light green light person from squid games? Topical!

I had thought that, but Sainsbury’s have cleared out all their Halloween stuff to make way for Christmas stuff. Sadly, it felt a bit early to repurpose red dress and Christmas stuff as Mariah Carey Halloween Grin

Oh, I wish I did- I’m midway through SG just now. I actually googled “Squid Game Green Tracksuit” last night.

Tracksuit would be v comfy too!!

Myneighboursnorlax · 30/10/2021 14:03

White sheet. When they ask if you’re a ghost, say no, you’re a mattress.

I am also hoping to be vaguely alluring in my outfit. As much as one can be while wearing purple glitter face paint.

None of this is remotely outing, OP.

You're going to a Hallowe'en themed fancy dress party...🤷🏻‍♀️

TheGirlWhoLived · 30/10/2021 14:30

When my bestie turns up at the local village pub wearing a purple paisley dress and pertaining to be a witch it will be v outing!

Ellmau · 30/10/2021 14:42

B sounds the best. I'm not sure I'd get what A was if you didn't say.

Well, it is if my bestie happens to read this thread and knows those are my options. I’d rather keep my mumsnet rantings away from those I love, cheers Grin Also, @TheGirlWhoLived, if you are my bestie, and your username says you might be, you’re supposed to be helping at the toddlers’ Halloween party! Yes, I tried it on and I looked like I was in a bad Fleetwood Mac tribute band

Black cat - all black clothes, either true black with leggings and long top etc, or sexy cat, with black tights, skirt, top etc.

Butcher an Alice band - remove everything on it and attempt to put ears on it - bonus points if they're made from card, it's raining and one has fallen off within 5 minutes of your arrival.

Stuff a black tight with some form of light stuffing - paper, or while you're on the destructive streak, pillow filling.

Cat eye eyeliner, colour your nose and eyeliner whiskers. Done.

Alternatively, if you've plenty of loo roll and patience. A mummy.

Onlinedilema · 30/10/2021 15:32

If go with the red dress.
Can you get to a shop and buy face paint?

StorminaBcup · 30/10/2021 15:42

Red velvet dress and witches hat? So option A/B? Do you have anything that could double as a cape? Take a broom with you?

DavidSPumpkins · 30/10/2021 15:48

I think I’m going to go with the red dress and witches hat. I’m going to leave a bit early so I can have a quick look on the high street for accessories. I don’t think the £50 bar tab will be mine but at least I’ll look like I’ve made a bit of an effort. Thanks everybody!!

Wear white and blue, write 'book' om your forehead and say you're Facebook. (Jim from the Office's idea, not mine, for people who think costume parties are only just bearable for under 10s.)

TheGirlWhoLived · 30/10/2021 20:13

Ah yes, toddlers Halloween party… was I the one bringing wine?
