Custard apple recipe ideas please!

DH has bought me a box of 6 large custard apples. I’m the only person in the house who would eat them but 6 is too much for me to eat before they go off and I’m likely to get bored eating them back to back.

Does anybody have any recipe idea?

I might whack half of one in a salad and use the other half to concoct a martini lol.

Put them into a smoothie? Maybe you can add banana, honey and yogurt? You can probably freeze some chunks. That’s what I do with excess fruit. But my teen dd loves making smoothies and smoothie bowls.

I’m not a smoothie person texturally I struggle with them. It’s a great idea but just not for me lol.

My absolute favourite way to eat custard apples is to make kulfi (Indian ice cream) with them - should be loads of recipes online and kulfi is much easier to make than normal ice cream.

Line a tin with greaseproof paper.
Fry the peeled sliced apples in butter and a desert spoon of brown sugar, add in sultanas if you have them.
When cooked top with a simple sponge mix or bought puff pastry.

Sprinkle a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon on top of what you choose for crunch.

You could also top with a crumble too.

@burblish kulfi is a good idea. I was wondering if I could somehow incorporate it into payasam or maybe a pear cake swapping it for pear but not sure if it has more water in it to work well.

@billy1966 it’s custard apples rather than regular apples (not really apples at all really lol)

This is the first time I’ve heard of a custard apple and I’m imagining a very runny toffee apple situation 😄 how does it stay on?? Off to Google. Will probably just be a yellow breed of apple?

😯 I am back from Google. Well you learn something new every day!!

Lol like hard custard coating? It sounds very fancy, I think you should experiment. It would be nicer than yoghurt coated things IMO!

I've never even heard of a custard apple, it sounds amazing I want one!

I have tried making this before and it was really good. There's also a few other recipes on there but some dont seem very appetizing!

They are quite a delicate flavour. Rubicon do a juice of them (full of sugar) that I use for cocktails. The ones I have our flat sided but I like the bumpy ones the best.
