I’m thinking maybe soft play for a couple of hours, but other than this, not sure … any suggestions? Smile

Trampoline park, baking / craft, swimming.

Foghead · 30/10/2021 10:01

Put the cover on the buggy, get yourself a raincoat with a hood and go for a walk. They can still look at things and it’ll be getting out of the house.
Library to look at some books. Some libraries have lovely children areas.
Supermarket.
Then just be at home and do what you normally do.

^this!

I don’t think that would be much fun for anybody to be honest @Foghead!

Swimming is possible … he wouldn’t be able to use a trampoline, he can’t walk yet! Grin

Mine loved being out in the rain! My youngest will still run into the garden when it’s chucking it down. She’s 9 😂

DontPeeInThePlayHouse · 30/10/2021 10:09

Messy play in the house, edible paint (yoghurt and food colouring), jelly play, cornflour and water, edible sand (flour, oil and food colouring).

Have fun getting messy, give him a long bath and that'll be an afternoon gone.

Magicalwoodlands · 30/10/2021 10:12

Yes but they can walk in it. It isn’t going to be much fun stuffed into a pram with a raincover!

Thanks for suggestions. I do want to get out of the house if possible.

Another who says a walk with rain cover. It's actually a great sensory experience hearing the rain and watching it run down the plastic!

Even better if you can double it with going somewhere with a purpose. Library is a good one. Mine has a cafe and we can go there, look at books, have coffee and cake and get home again and have used a whole afternoon!

AliasGrape · 30/10/2021 10:15

Theres a trampoline place near us that has a toddler section. I've never been so not entirely sure what it entails but friends with younger babies than mine have been. Might be better in the week when its quieter though, not sure.

Any cafes near you with a play area? We are quite well served with them round here or at least within a half hour drive, but I wouldn't have known of any of them without being in a local mums facebook group so might be worth asking around. Theres also pubs that have soft play/ wacky warehouse type places though I find those don't tend to have dedicated areas for younger babies/ toddlers.

Mine likes a wander round the supermarket sitting in the trolley. Also shopping centres. If you're anywhere near the Trafford centre at all theres the sea life centre there which is free for the baby and you can get 2 for 1 for adults with vouchers on Kellogg's and other stuff. Obviously other sealife centres are available I just find this one smaller and more manageable!

Free zoo - aka pets at home. Look at the fish and small pets. Also if.you have a big garden centre near you with a fish section - they probably all have Halloween displays at the moment and maybe even some christmas lights which are fun to look at.

Soft play at home aka pull all the cushions off the sofa and chairs, chuck a big sheet over them and see if he can negotiate his way around (if crawling). Or messy play -.yogurt and food colouring or cooked spaghetti etc. A bit in the high chair or a lot in a tuff tray or in the washing up bowl sat on a wipeable tablecloth or shower curtain or just do it in the bath. Or chuck some toys in the bath, put some music on, if you've got a light projector or some flashy toys get them involved too - disco bath!

Skysblue · 30/10/2021 10:17

Messy play! Perfect for that age. Make playdo (simple kind is just washing up liquid plus cornflour), let him play witb piles of dry pasta / oats, let him practice pouring, etc

All the soft play I know closed permanently in the pandemic but perhaps there is something near you - it’s not amazing for a ten month old though because the big kids knock them over etc.

Goneblank38 · 30/10/2021 10:18

Another vote for library. My son also used to love the gallery. I'd pop him facing outwards in the baby carrier and we'd have a wander. Then snacks at a cafe. Swimming is a good one too.

Magicalwoodlands · 30/10/2021 10:18

You’re good, @AliasGrape - I just find I want to get him out of the house for a bit! I like sea life centres but busy at the weekend and we have already been to an aquarium this week.

I’ll probably go for soft play and hope the weather clears up so we can have a walk and go to the park. I think he’d lack confidence on a trampoline, he can’t stand independently or walk. More a baby than a toddler still, although transitioning. I have the tantrums to prove it!

Our soft plays have baby sections although it’s annoying when bigger kids come in!

Children don't dissolve in the rain

confusedofengland · 30/10/2021 10:22

Definitely library! The village one I work in has different activities for children (Rhyme Time, Stay & Play, crafts) each week & refreshments with those for a small donation. You could do that as well as reading books with your DC for as long as you like Smile

Magicalwoodlands · 30/10/2021 10:22

Yes but I want to do something he’ll enjoy.

If my aim of posting was ‘find something that will mean my baby won’t dissolve’ fair enough.

If you enjoy getting soaked and your child likes rain covers on prams crack on. We don’t.

Oooh, soft play's going to be busy!!
I used to take mine to soft play when it was sunny outside, nice & empty & just about bearable! Grin
I used to pile up a load of cushions at home on rainy days to bounce about on & make a bit of a den etc.

Iggly · 30/10/2021 10:31

Fair enough. Mine didn’t like rain covers but we had very good wasterproofs so they could walk and splash about 🤷🏻‍♀️

Iggly · 30/10/2021 10:31

*waterproofs

bordersmidgebites · 30/10/2021 10:34

Most kids don't mind rain
Unless a parent teaches them to dislike it

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 30/10/2021 10:43

Just stay in! He's 10 months old. Why does he need to go anywhere?

Magicalwoodlands · 30/10/2021 10:44

This is starting to drive me a bit potty.

I don’t care particularly about a bit of drizzle.

However. The aim is to do something nice with my baby.

Getting cold myself and stuffing him into a pram with a rainproof cover that he can’t see well out of and tramping in the cold and wet and mud and getting my pram filthy and having to clean the hall or the car. Or - soft play, museums, aquariums, other indoor activity things he might enjoy - more the suggestions I was after.

I’m sorry it I sound grumpy but it does get really irritating having to fend off the same suggestion ten or more times and then have it implied you’re a terrible mother because you’re child has an aversion to the rain Hmm - he doesn’t as far as I know, but given he can’t walk yet asking him to sit in his pram getting drenched or have a rain cover on so he can’t see properly anyway is daft.

Plus it is only on here everyone blithely skips out in the rain.

Here you are liable to be asked if you are all right in a concerned tone of voice.

Thank you to the suggestions that don’t involve rain covers on prams!

Our local cinema used to do baby and toddler showings of things like Duggee etc, which was a nice little activity together on a rainy day.
