Getting tradespeople to turn up..

Any tips on this?!
So I had someone out to quote for a thermostat, tiling and flooring. All fine. He said the thermostat would be this week and he would quote the flooring. That was 2 weeks ago and he's AWOL

I book people and they either don't quote, don't turn up, or vanish. Is it just me?! And no, not since covid, it's always happening Confused
I need work doing on my kitchen - the tiling and floor, it can be done any time, I provide drinks and biscuits and make myself scarce, pay them and that's it
Just find it so frustrating if I take a day off work and they just don't bloody turn up Angry

We're not allowed to say bad things on ours either. Often people ask and I see the names of the ones who have let me down being recommended.

I think it's just luck if you get a tradesperson on the right day, when they can answer their phone and find a slot in their diary in two years time.

I pm'd peope who were asking for - and got- recommendations on my local website to warn them against tradespeople who had let me down.

@Sugarandtime I've used Facebook alot to look for recommendations, but only based on people who have actually had work done by them and described it. Too many times the recommendations just come from their friend, relative etc, just giving the Tradespersons name, which is meaningless.

I've done that about the cleaner who was terrible, changed her days all the time, brought her kids, sent her husband one time and once I came home early and she was on the sofa watching TV drinking my beer. She only did two hours a week! People recommend her all the time on FB. Can only imagine they are her friends and not people she's actually worked for!

Yep fightback is possible, and probably should happen.

I had a pane of glass replaced a few weeks back , after 3 months of chasing the guy to do it. He was supposed to also do the top at the same time but he didn't have the glass. He promised he would be back in 10 days..... I still have no glass 8 weeks later but he also hasn't billed us for the first part of the job. Top pane only has a small crack and I'm having my baby in three days , so I've given up chasing him. I figure he will turn up eventually if he wants his money and if he doesn't then at this stage I'm not going to loose any sleep over it
