Ideas for making toddler Halloween costume?

givingupchocolatemonday · 29/10/2021 19:05

Late for almost everything in life but feeling really guilty about not having a Halloween costume for DD 2.
Been to 4 shops today and none have a costume in her size.
If I had the guts I would pay homage to my late mother and put her in a bin bag tied with a belt and call her a witch but that wouldn't be fair Grin

I'm not the most artistic but any ideas for easy outfits that don't look too cheap and handmade??

She's 2! I'd go bin bag. Draw glasses and a lightning scar on for Harry Potter. Or something else easy - I do Goldilocks as DD is blonde and I just have to put her in a dress and give her three teddy bears to carry Grin

White pillow case, cut out eye and arm holes and you have a ghost or a kkk member.

You'd not get away with Goldilocks in the UK - it's not really an "anything goes" costume event, it needs to be spooky-ish. Not dead scary obvs, a jolly pumpkin or witch princess is fine!

If you're not in UK or Eire then Goldilocks will be fine.

Cuts in old clothing, red lipstick as blood, a bit of mud or brown/black eyeshadow rubbed into clothing. Zombie toddler 🧟‍♀️

Definitely zombie.

PinkMoon22 · 29/10/2021 19:50

Love the zombie idea!

White t shirt and black sharpie to make a skeleton

CallMeRisley · 29/10/2021 20:00

Definitely bin bag

Talc or white face paint and some lipstick stitches/scars on the face/arms plus a standard Disney Princess dress = zombie princess.

Yellowcar2 · 29/10/2021 20:15

Black cat is easy. Black leggings, black top. Black tights stuff into 1 leg and loosely stitch to leggings for a tail. Eye liner for nosecand whiskers. Finally if you have a head band you can make some cardboard ears.

AosSi · 29/10/2021 20:17

Eire Hmm

A non-spooky costume would be fine. There were all manner of Disney princesses parading around my Dublin street for Halloween 2019! And a boatload of non-scary costumes on display in the primary school I work in. Nobody is going to take a look at a wee 2 year old at their door and say "nope, not scary enough, no Smarties for you".

DS1 and DS2 love messing around with a piece of white gauze fabric and pretend to be ghosts. It's a classic Grin

I dislike seeing really young children dressed up to be frightening.

My ds was a homemade zombie tpday for school and he looked good, ripped tshirt covered in blood and messy hair with black eyes etc, nothing wrong with making your own outfits :)

TSSDNCOP · 29/10/2021 20:30

Has she a Disney Princess outfit? Zombie toddler princess!

Groovester · 29/10/2021 20:31

A rag doll like Amelia Jane. Striped tights, a dress and plaits. Draw on rosy red cheeks and freckles.

Mine have always gone with what they want. We've had a dragon, Catboy from PJ Masks and this year he's sonic. No one will care if he isn't spooky enough.

I am in the south of England and I'm afraid I did dress my DD up as Goldilocks for the nursery Halloween fancy dress day today ... I don't really fancy making my toddler look like the walking dead but fair dos to the zombie fans out there! Grin

A black cat is a great idea too.

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/10/2021 21:13

No idea where you get that from!!

My dd had a Halloween when she was about 15 months old…stripy t-shirt, dark leggings, wellies…I made a “cutlass” from a cereal packet and covered it with tinfoil. Some eyeliner to draw face stubble
