Does this sound typical of Norovirus? I have woken up feeling very sick, vomiting, diahrea, achy muscles, and chills.
Thank you

Placemarking as I started with the same yesterday.

Crunchymum · 29/10/2021 12:00

Could well be. Or could be any of the other tummy bugs doing the rounds. Gastroenteritis etc.

All recommend the same type of care. Rest and stay hydrated. Do you have any dioralyte (sp) in?

They are awful but usually short lived.

Feel better soon.

@Imissmoominmama it’s awful isn’t it. Hope you feel better soon.

@Crunchymum thank you. I think I have some in from a year ago. Presume it will be ok too use, I will check.

Norovirus is extremely violent, continuous vomiting and diarrhoea, but usually only lasts 24 hours. Then you feel like you've been hit by a train for the next couple of days.

Sunflower300719 · 29/10/2021 12:12

@lynntheyresexpeople thanks it could well be then as thats what is happening so far today, plus really bad stomach and lower back cramps

My mum was sick on Friday evening and she doesnt seem to know what caused it. She is hardly ever sick so we presumed it must been a bug as she is feeling better today.
purplesequins · 31/10/2021 19:31

the (only) good thing about d&v is that it's usually over quickly.

keep drinking little and often to stay hydrated.

keep up with good hygiene to avoid spreading it.

lljkk · 31/10/2021 20:31

Key feature about noro is it comes on suddenly. And leaves quick, too.

From "Perfectly fine" to puking your guts up in about an hour.
Most typically, Feeling pretty fine ~ 36-48 hours after last puke.

Other sickie bugs are available.

No. Norovirus is severe d+v
amusedbush · 16/05/2022 23:33

I'm sure they're feeling fine now, seeing as they posted this in October last year...!

MarmiteCoriander · 16/05/2022 23:43

DH and I have what I assume was noro a few years ago. We were never tested, but its usually the same advise for similar gastric illnesses.

  • small sips of water and/or dioralyte often- not large gulps, even when you are desperate for a drink

  • nothing oily, spicy, fried, diary etc. The only exception for dairy being kefir and plain, non sugar yoghurts/yakult which can help replace the good bacteria in the gut

  • Once you can tolerate some solid food, bananas can help replace the lost potassium and also firm up stools

  • Rest, fluids and time are generally all you need.
