School Business Manager role - advice

Considering options for the future and a couple of friends have suggested something along these lines.

I work in management accounting currently, in a massive organisation. I much prefer a smaller scale business but we were took over by the larger co. so mainly I'm just happy I've been able to be kept on.

I dont plan to make a move yet, but wonder if there are any courses I could take in my spare time to get some basic understanding of systems BMs in schools would use.

My local primary schools BM seems to cover a vast range of tasks, including playground duties etc, so I think it would be a bit of a change from my current desk-bound, solo working environment.

Anyone currently working as (or has worked as in the past) a BM wouldn't mind giving me a little background info?

There are school business manager qualifications, the only thing I would say is that in my area so many schools have become academies that they don't tend to have that role as they use academy shared services and just tend to have a finance/admin roles in each school (smaller schools) reporting back to the 'head office'.

Ah that makes sense. In that case the "head office" part may be more suitable.

We're an academy (secondary); most primaries round our way are not. Look into SBM qualifications and depending on where you are, there will be jobs advertised for schools (our council's website has most of them).
