How have I not watched this before?

Currently watching on Britbox. Proper laugh out loud funny!! Love Martin always doing jobs with no shirt on. And Jim from next door! Just brilliant.

Any other fans?

I’d missed out on it somehow too! I binge watched it back in May, so only just after Paul Ritter died.

My husband was wandering around in the background of one of my Zoom lectures the other day, with no shirt on. So, I muted and turned the camera off and asked if he was boiling. And “shit on it” is one of my favourite things to say. That dead fox episode 🤣🤣🤣

Sorry pressed “post” too soon.

I love Mr. Morris. The episodes with him in are the best ones. When he gives Jackie the photo of himself as a younger man... gets me every time. The way he is so incredulous about no one appreciating how much he had looked like “a real Beau Brummell” is brilliant. And when he comes around for dinner and Jackie asks him what he would like to drink.... the phrase “I think I’ll have.... Champagne!” has entered the lexicon in our house. As have “Little Legs”, “Beanstalk”, “Tiny Tim”, “Skyscraper” and the asking of how many of something there is.... [[https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VfW5bMoMwTA
“Do you know how many heart attacks I’ve had?”]] ... “Oh no, not none! I’ve had some! Why does everyone guess so low in this house?!” Genuinely, there isn’t a line from Mr. Morris that isn’t quotable. His hatred of Rutherfords, the fact that he’s never been slandered, his driving skills... the best one-off character and I wish there had been more of him.

We- both me and my husband and our 8 and 6 year old- also sing Jim’s wooing song a lot:

This frog he would a-wooing ride
With sword and buckler by his side
With a harem-scarem-diddle-um-dare-um
Whipsee-diddle-dee-dan-dee-dee!

Robert Popper, the writer of the show, did an episode of the podcast Griefcast where he talked about his nanna, who was the inspiration for the two grandmothers in the show. It’s well worth a listen, it’s properly laugh out loud funny. One of his grans was (I think) Ukrainian and he does an impression of her that is just amazing. You really get to understand how his own, clearly pretty eccentric family, were the blueprint for the Goodman clan. FWIW, for those yet to be introduced, Griefcast in general is just brilliant. “Comedians talking about death” isn’t the most inspiring tag line, but it really works. The format means that the guests really open up and they’re often naturally very funny people, so their telling of family anecdotes flow very naturally between profound and hilarious. David Baddiel, Robert Webb and Kayleigh Llewelyn are three that immediately spring to mind as being great episodes. There’s also a few compilation episodes which are a good jumping-off point.

@weaselwords my dad is forever saying he’s hot whilst wandering around with his “hairy udders” on display and my husband is notorious for forever just hanging around the house in only his pants. It’s clearly a very common “dad trait” 😂

@TrampolineForMrKite, the funniest bit was him just not getting it, as he hasn’t watched it. Me and the kids thought it hilarious. He’s never got his top on in the summer, so very common in our house.

madnessitellyou · 29/10/2021 09:51

We quote FND all the time in this house. Before we go to bed we quickly look out of the window for "slanderes and punk rockers" and crumble is always of the crimble variety. My favourite episode is the one where Uncle Saul dies. That and the good luck meat. Oh and were Jonny threatens to shit Buggy up.

VitalsStable · 29/10/2021 09:52

Love it.

Due to DS and DH never wearing shirts I always warm people that our house is a little FND!

The Mr Morris episode is the funniest thing I've ever seen in my whole life.

cricketmum84 · 29/10/2021 09:53

Me and my 12yo often binge watch a series at a time and then cry at the last one.

No more Wilson 😢 always gets me.

And YY to the the PP who mentioned cuckoo. Loved that too and I may introduce it to her this week. I'm off work and she has just tested positive so cuckoo will cheer her up!

bendmeoverbackwards · 29/10/2021 09:58

@madnessitellyou just watched the Buggy episode! Just brilliant 😂

cherrytree63 · 29/10/2021 10:06

Martin's speech about Uncle Saul's exploding anus just cracks me up. It's my go to "cheer me up" viewing.

devildeepbluesea · 29/10/2021 10:08

Another recent devotee. Very few comedies make my laugh out loud like that.

Leelaseye · 29/10/2021 10:09

Love the Uncle Saul episode and also the dead fox in the freezer

ShanghaiDiva · 29/10/2021 10:12

My favourite episode too. We laugh so much it hurts.
Carbuncula · 29/10/2021 10:16

I like the piano tuner episode.

"You know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit."

"Oh is it REALLY!"

We call our dog Wilson because he finches and jumps away from strange moving things a lot, like Jim finches away from Wilson - so it's a complete misnomer on every conceivable level, but we still call him Wilson not Jim...we think we're hilarious.

MaryRaph89 · 29/10/2021 10:17

My favorite episode too! I had so much fun watching them.

jennyohh · 29/10/2021 10:19

WiseWitch · 29/10/2021 10:22

@ChequerBoard oh no! Silly me, got the babes mixed up (but not the faces) :(

Theuniverseandeverything · 29/10/2021 10:22

I watched the piano tuner/clean carpet/Jim in the bath episode last night and I’m still laughing 😂.

WiseWitch · 29/10/2021 10:22

Names not babes!!!

Bloodypunkrockers · 29/10/2021 10:30

Loved it (hence my user name)

Mr Morris episodes are the funniest and we quote from FND on a daily basis

I was gutted when Paul Ritter died. He was my secret crush

SeasonFinale · 29/10/2021 10:32

@Boohooyouho

My 7 year old was learning about Judaism at school this half term and her teacher commented that we obviously watched FND in our house so I dread to think what she’d been telling them.
I hope they didn't tell her to shit on it Grin
madnessitellyou · 29/10/2021 10:34

Mr Morris was hilarious. When he makes Adam sit in a bin liner on Grin

Phyllis321 · 29/10/2021 10:38

Martin’s medical-based eulogy for his uncle is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen Grin

Gonnagetgoing · 29/10/2021 10:43

Yeah I discovered this about 2 years ago and watched on C4 catch up. Very funny. I introduced my parents to it too.

RIP Paul Ritter Sad
