Parking ticket appeal

I wonder if anyone else has appealed a parking ticket in similar circumstances? Parked in a council car park all today. Purchased the correct ticket.....and here's the kicker, I let my daughter display the ticket on the dashboard which she duly did. I then got bags and people mobilised and we left. Returned to find we had been issued a parking ticket and the parking ticket I had correctly bought earlier was beautifully displayed.. facing the wrong way up! I hadn't checked it was correctly displayed. Has anyone successfully appealed a ticket when the fee was paid and I obviously have the proof I paid as I have the ticket. I'd like to think the council will apply logic as I can supply proof of purchase but something tells me logic won't apply.

There's no harm in appealing it. The clock stops once you lodge your appeal so there is no extra penalty. But it is highly unlikely that your appeal will be successful. It's your responsibility to display the ticket correctly and it wasn't. Be prepared to cough up.

Yes I successfully appealed when my ticket was wafted off the dashboard and onto the floor when I shut the car door, so it looked as if I had no ticket on display.
I phoned the car park number and sent a photo of the ticket and the guy was lovely and stuck the fine off.
Hope the same happens for you - good luck! :-)

Yes! Happened to an old.ex, when he closed the car door the breeze blew the ticket over. He had proof he'd paid so he got it cancelled.

Although reading the post above maybe you won't be as lucky!

Depends on your council, but if its a "first offence" so to speak they can waive it as a gesture of goodwill. I live in the city centre and have visitors parking permits. Guest parked in the wrong road, not covered by the permit. They waived it twice when I contacted them, although after the second they said they wouldn't do it again.

Usually they ask for evidence that you've paid which you have. I would definitely appeal.

Yes I was in exactly the same situation a few weeks ago. Paid for a ticket using my card and displayed the ticket upside down. I appealed and provided evidence of a picture of the ticket plus a screenshot of the transaction on my bank account. They let me off but said if it happened again I would be fined. I’m definitely more careful now and always double check my ticket once I’ve locked the car. So definitely appeal. I only had to fill an online form in so very easy to do and nothing to lose.

Yes had exactly this. Sent a photo of my three kids and the parking ticket. Fine removed

Normandy144 · 28/10/2021 23:39

Thanks all definitely sounds like I've got nothing to lose by appealing. @tigertigertigertiger out of interest, the photo you sent of your children was it a sad face daily mail style photo? Just wondering if I need to include a picture of distraught daughter (who incidentally now knows which way up parking tickets should be displayed!) for added effect?

I used to be the person responding to these appeals, first ticket for this kind of thing was always let off. Might be different in your area, but definitely worth appealing.

@Normandy144

Not a sad face at all ! It was an existing photo I had of them sitting squashed up in the front seat of the car where they used to like to play , with “ crowns “ made from weeds and long grass in their hair .
They would all have been under 5 at the time.

Just thought I would update you all. I successfully appealed the ticket and they let me off! They did make it clear several times that it was a one off. Thanks for all your help!
