Has anyone been to Secret Cinema before?

I’ve got tickets to go to the Secret Cinema Bridgestone event in 2 weeks, but I haven’t sorted out anything to wear.

I’ve never been before. Do people properly dress up?

Yes, I went a few years ago and it was fantastic! People do dress up so do make a effort, even if it's just a little. What have you been told to dress up as?

JorisBonson · 28/10/2021 22:20

Yes. People go all out. You look out of place if you don't.

Forget every inhibition and throw yourself into it to get the best experience!

Hi, you might want to check, we were notified that the start had been delayed until after Christmas.

But yes, you have to dress up at least minimally. You might not be allowed in if you aren’t it is def part of the experience. The audience are part of the event - I’ve been to 4 and only ever seen 1 couple not dressed up. They were foreign and looked very uncomfortable.

Scroll down, not starting until 16th Feb

I’m so glad I posted. I hadn’t seen the update! My ticket has been transferred to February.

Still that buys me a bit of time. Now where the hell do I source a regency gown!

I hadn't heard of secrete cube s before but one of the faqs suggests they give help on where to find outfits

Palavah · 28/10/2021 22:33

You don't have to wear actual regency - you could get away with something long with the right neckline and a reasonably slimline shape, work on the hair, a fan, long gloves.

MrsFionaCharming · 28/10/2021 23:13

I went to the Stranger Things one, everyone was dressed up, there was some really impressive costumes!

Nelia5 · 28/10/2021 23:31

There’s reasonably priced regency dresses on eBay. Or you could wear a long frilly nightgown (joking). It’s my least favourite period to dress up in, It’s not flattering unless you are stick thin. One of the criticism of Bridgerton, apart from the shallow plot and the rape scene, was that the costumes were not historically accurate as they wore corsets with pushed up boobs, which isn’t regency.

I’ve been to all secret cinema events for the past 8 years but the events are no longer as good as they used to be. Too crowded and too commercial now.

Teenytinyvoice · 29/10/2021 19:43

All the events I’ve been to have had a shop associated with them with suitable fancy dress in them, you get the link when they send out the further info. I’ve never bought from their before but might for this one, as it’s a bit niche. For Moulin Rouge I got a ball gown from China, and think a similar approach would work here.
