Asthma flare up, coming off prednisolone. Help!

Hoping someone can help as GP not getting back to me and Asthma UK helpline busy. DD (12) was given five days of 40mg prednisolone for an asthma exacerbation. As soon as she finished the course, her symptoms came back. GP told us to take her to A&E for assessment, there she was out on a salbutamol reducing regime and given more prednisolone. All in all she will have had 10 days of prednisolone. I’m a bit worried to just stop it after the ten days, shouldn’t she be weaned off it? So scared her symptoms will come back with a vengeance again.

Put on a regime. Not out.

I had similar last year (?covid in the time where they only tested in hospital). I had 10 days of steroids and two more courses later. I asked my GP about weaning off but they said no, weaning was only for people on them long term. I was okay coming off them. Obviously seek medical attention if she’s unwell when she stops them. Hope she’s better soon Flowers

Thank you so much. It’s such a terrible worry.
