What would cause spontaneous foot pain?

I was bimbling around the bedroom putting stuff away and chatting to DH last night, and as I got into bed a felt a blinding pain along the front of my foot (along the top, from mid foot into 1st/2nd toes). It was the foot I was putting into bed first, not even the supporting foot on the floor - I didn't even flex it! It felt like cramp, which I've had a few times in my feet and calves, but it didn't dissipate - throbbed like a bastard all night, and although I can put weight on it this morning I can't flex at the toes, lean on the ball of my foot or turn it from side to side.

There is no swelling but I've got major throbbing pain all around my foot - attempted to "walk it off" with the dog earlier but that didn't help.

How the hell can that happen? I have noticed a kind of "tightness" in my feet in the last couple of weeks, if I crouch on my tiptoes to reach down for something or put my knee on the ground, that has been giving me a jolt of pain under my toes.

Weird, can you get an injury by magic?!
