Morning after pill

So I had unprotected sex on Monday evening, I had my last period on the 12th October, I came off on the 19th I am guessing by my period app that I ovulated around 21st then I took the morning after pill on Tuesday morning, just over 12 hours after the unprotected sex.

I never knew that ovulation effected the pill until I did some Googling Tuesday morning. I went and got my pill and the person who did my consultation advised me that the pill should work fine where I am in my cycle. However I've read everywhere that if you take the pill during or after ovulation it won't work. But how soon after you've ovulated does it not work for? I can't quite get my head around it and also can't find any answers anywhere to my specific question.

So, I had unprotected sex around 4 days after I ovulated then got the pill the next morning. Will the pill work or will I get pregnant from this?

The MAP works by stopping ovulation. If you’ve already ovulated it’s pretty much useless.

There are two different types of pill the person you got it off should have made sure you took the right one

Yes you can still get pregnant I myself have a 21 year old but looking back I think my Dr gave me the wrong one because my period cycle is longer than "average" and that's why it didn't work

No one can answer this. You’ll just have wait and see if having unprotected sex during your extra fertile time resulted in impregnation.

Both Levonelle and ellaOne are effective only if taken before the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation). The sooner you take Levonelle or ellaOne, the more effective it will be.

from memory both sperm and egg are able to wait around for a while so you are fertile for roughly 5 days on either side of ovulation (sperm can wait for the egg to descend and egg can wait for sperm to arrive)

I'm not 100% sure this is still correct and even if it is a good rule of thumb obviously there will be individual differences, but I read about "how to sway sex of baby" 10 years ago and this was the gist of it.

Sorry I know you're not a doctor, but once ovulation has happened then what happens? Does the egg leave the body when you have your period, And then ovulation is finished?

He said to me that where I was in my cycles means it's unlikely that I'd get pregnant and that because I got it soon after it happened there wouldn't have been enough time for fertilisation. So he reassured me but now it's sounding like it was incorrect information

Yes, if it's not fertilised it leaves your body during your period.

If you've ovulated the egg hangs around for about 24 hours so technically speaking, if you really did have sex four days after ovulation you should be fine. Maybe this is what the pharmacist meant, rather than that the MAP would work for you for where you are in your cycle.

@Ph1998 eggs don't hang around able to be inseminated for long. If your unprotected sex was genuinely 4 days after ovulation, you're not that likely to conceive.

HOWEVER unless you do basal temping your app is an estimate only for ovulation day

God thank you, that makes me feel allot less stressed about the situation. I know it deffo wasn't on the day of ovulation or 24 hours after that or even 48 hours. Thank you for your advice I can't believe I've got through 22 years and never knew the pill wouldn't work during ovulation

that's ok, I didn't know that until I was 45; I just never needed to know!

I can confirm that I came on my period today so the pill did its job (thankfully)
