Ear pain after swimming for DCs

Posting here for traffic. Not asking for medical advice really, more wondering if anyone had has had a similar experience.

We are on holiday in the UK and took the DCs swimming in the resort pool both yesterday and today. One of the DCs complained of pain in her ear after swimming yesterday but said it was better this morning. Now the other DC age 7 has woken up in tears saying that one of his ears really hurts inside. I’ve given him Calpol which hopefully will help but I can hear him whimpering in bed :(

DH and I were in the pool with them although we don’t tend to swim underwater like the kids do-so perhaps it’s not surprising that neither of us are suffering at all. The strange thing is that they have swimming lessons every week and have never ever complained of ear pain before so I’m not sure what’s going on.

Has anyone else’s DCs had a similar experience please?

My daughter got an ear infection on holiday, the pool wasn't as chlorinated as our pool at home, and she spent a lot of time underwater doing somersaults etc when she'd usually just be swimming flat iyswim. Water in the ear can be uncomfortable - so if you can get it out (Google it) that might help, but if infected it may need antibiotics to clear up. For prevention, I find swimming earplugs help, I got mine from decathlon and the smallest set just about fit my 5yo (but she won't wear them!)

Oh thanks for that foobio.

Thinking about it, they both spent a lot longer in the pool than they would usually and like with your DC, a lot of time underwater doing somersaults etc.

Good tip re the earplugs, I’ll invest in some of those!

We use this spray for DD amazon.co.uk/dp/B08M9XWNZQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_Z7B56SA9891CB563XRHH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1]] Spray it in both ears after swimming and it dries the ears out.

Decathlon also do an ear band for swimmers to help keep the water out.

Thank you for the Otinova spray. It sounds like being prepared next time is the way forward to prevent it from happening again.
