3 fire engines and no fire! How do I tell them?

I have nc as this will out me.

So about 40 minutes ago watching a movie with DD and we could hear beeping.

Looked a around the house even the loft and it's not from my home.
The beeping was strongest on the landing and I realised it was next doors smoke alarm.

We are a semi so ran round and knocked on their door. All the lights are on but no answer. I lifted the letter box and the hallway looked smokey.

I was in my dressing gown so put on legging and a t shirt and jumped over my back garden wall in to their garden as the blinds were down at the front.
Kitchen looked full of white smoke so I called 999.

One fire engine turned up firemen jumped the wall and agreed the kitchen was full of smoke so they kicked the door panel in to gain entry.
By this time 2 other fire engines and a fire car had turned up.

Upshot is the couple that live there had set off a bug bomb and left the house.
It hasn't occurred to them that a smoke bomb would set of their smoke alarms.

I feel so guilty that 3 fire engines turned up their back door kicked in ( fireman has fixed it) and no fire.
Everyone's gone and I am now left waiting for the neighbours to return so I can tell them what I have done Blush

The fire service and other neighbours all say I did the right thing calling them but I can't help feeling guilty.

Please help me figure out how to break the news Grin

I think I'm missing the point but come on, 3 loads of firemen. Fuck the door.

Had the circumstances being different I would have appreciated the company I was suddenly surrounded with Grin

@TSSDNCOP

3 loads of firemen you say?

🤣🤣 Off to check out eBay for bug bombs.

Hapoydayz · 27/10/2021 20:43

You did the right thing. Well done reacting so quickly. The firefighters clearly thought so do or they wouldn't have crashed down the door

HemanOrSheRa · 27/10/2021 20:44

TSSDNCOP Grin

I regularly have to meet the fire service as part of my job. Unfortunately it's usually st 3am when I'm on call and I couldn't look any worse if I tried SadGrin. They are always utterly charming whatever the weird and wonderful situation Smile.

BitterTits · 27/10/2021 20:46

As the door is fixed is be tempted to be asleep by the time they get back (how long would you need to be away for, anyway?)

BitterTits · 27/10/2021 20:46

*I'd

Well there is a little more to this story that I didnt know about until I came back in the house and DDs informed me about but I wasn't sure to include it Blush

Similar happened to me years ago. Ex-DP came to meet me for a drink after work in the pub around the corner from our flat. He put some potatoes on low to roast before he left as we were only going to have a couple of drinks.

Got home and the potatoes were on the counter, hot and perfectly cooked, and the oven was off. We were puzzled to say the least. Looked around the flat, nothing out if place. Really freaked out at this point as someone had clearly been in the flat. A few minutes later our neighbour knocked the door apologising profusely as she'd called the fire brigade as she'd smelled smoke - we had an old Tricity Belling cooker and it stank of burned food every time you used it.

Apparently they'd closed off the whole street and the firemen had gone up the ladder and in through the old fashioned sash window. They turned the oven off, sampled the potatoes and left in good spirits apparently! We missed the whole thing despite only being round the corner. I was very embarrassed.

I was going to but then I deleted it from the OP.

Ok so as I mentioned I put on leggings and a t shirt to jump over the wall. Well the reason for that is all I was wearing was my dressing gown. Just my dressing gown.

When I had done running round the garden with the fighfighters and standing out the front talking to them I came back in the house.
DDs informed me that it was very clear that my t shirt was a bit see through and a bit tight and with no bra on the chilly night air and the running round the garden, everyone including the firefighters and other neighbours must have also known I had no bra on. I have a decent chest and ridiculously large nipples....Blush

Ha ha ha (thanks for this).
TillyTopper · 27/10/2021 21:21

To be honest I think they are at fault. If I was to set off a bug bomb I'd definitely tell neighbours in case they saw smoke escaping. I would also wait around for a while to see what happened and make sure it was all ok.

maddiemookins16mum · 27/10/2021 21:23

Meh, firemen is what we call them, I also call it the ‘Fire Brigade’ in a sort of Trumpton/Camberwick Green way.

Grin. Ah well, look on the bright side. At least your leggings weren't see through Wink.

😂😂
When your neighbours return maybe start with this before you tell them about their door being kicked down Grin

Seeline · 27/10/2021 21:37

You did the right thing. As a semi detached property, it wouldn't have been just your NDNs house that burnt down. You were protecting your family and property!

Oh I think they know, or at least Mrs N does Grin

WednesdayDrama · 27/10/2021 21:49

UPDATE

Ok so they came home about 15 mins ago and I met them at their door.

I just told them it as it happened and they were so apologetic!!

They didn't realise the smoke would get that bad as when they set them off they were just short little puffs of smoke.
As others said they were really grateful that I had taken action and were sorry they had caused stress.
We did laugh about the 3 fire trucks the equipment across my garden and all the wall jumping.

They are going to call the station tomorrow at 8am (that's when this crew are back on) and apologise for them being called out.
We are also swapping numbers! Grin
