Is 10 days isolation really enough?

DC1 tested positive. Isolated for 10 days as advised by T and T. My parents, (70s, health issues but equally very "young" still) have both DC once a week after school, and odd days school hols, while I'm at work. I'm forever chasing my tail with childcare as it is, and have had to use a week's leave to cover the isolation time. I should be in the office on day 15, and parents were due to have DC for half a day.

I'm really wary, but work know my parents have them and know DS has done the 10 days. And are being tricky about it.

I am able to WFH but I all honesty, its not ideal with the DC at home

Would you send them to their GPS or not?

do a ltf first on them and see if they are negative. if so should be fine.

They can stay positive for up to 90 days though. Me and the other dc are negative on lft but I was advised not to retest dc1 unless he developed further symptoms

If he's done his 10 days he's supposed to be able to go back to normal unless he still had a fever.
Don't test him in the absence of new symptoms

He hasn't had a fever at all, hasn't been unwell but had a continuous cough. Still got an occasional cough (but that's not unusual)

This. As long as no fever, cracks on.

Cough can last for weeks. Are your parents vaccinated?

SpringRainbow · 27/10/2021 19:27

How do your parents feel about having him?

ImFree2doasiwant · 27/10/2021 19:28

Yes, both vaccinated. One is ECV.

Hi OP, this is a graph of the Covid incubation period. As you can see by 15 days there's a much reduced but still a small chance of infection.

That's the incubation period when it's brewing in your body before you get symptoms/are infectious. It doesn't mean you are infectious for that period of time. That was why the incubation period for close contacts used to be 14 days

ParmigianoReggiano · 27/10/2021 19:36

Oh sorry you're right. Here's the graph I wanted.

Incubation period is separate from contagious period. This might explain further
