Posting for traffic: would reducing antidepressant dose by half combat weight gain? Thanks

Just that, really... Since starting on a new antidepressant and building up to the highest dose I have seen a lot of weight gain. I don't feel the highest dose is helping my mental health anymore than when I was on half the dose, plus I've gained so much weight. I am going to speak to GP about it but does anyone know if going back down to half of my current dose would help with the weight issue?
I'm hoping half the dose will help me lose some of this extra weight BUT I don't know if I'll experience weight gain whatever dose I'm on of this med (by just being on this med at all)... Anyone know? I'm hoping so as I don't want to experiment more...

Is it mirtazapine by any chance? I found that coming off mirtazapine was the only way I lost any weight. Reducing it did nothing for me, however I would rather be fat than depressed so I mostly remained on the higher doses.

It’s not sertraline is it? I’m currently facing the same dilemma - weight really sticks on me currently and I feel like the higher dose makes me a bit foggy and I stumble over words sometimes

Hi flashpaper No, I was offered Mirtazapine as I was told it would also help with sleep issues so I avoided that. It's Citalopram. Ugh, I had feared reducing might not be enough... I really don't want to experiment with other antidepressants tbh. I've tried others. Venlafaxine was dreadful. I have other health issues that weight gain worsens.
PompomDahlia I've been on Sertraline and didn't gain weight but it stopped helping me even on a higher dose and my hair and eyelashes kept falling out very badly!
I'm wondering if Escitalopram is in the same family and might help without the weight gain...
