My DS is 16 and we received a letter advising that he have two Covid vaccinations rather than one as he is at risk of clinical complications. It said if you didn’t realise he was clinically vulnerable to ring GP to find out why.

This letter has really worried me & I’ve been wracking my brains as to what it means. I can’t get through to my GP to ask.

He does take medication for occasional migraines and a few years ago had to go to the eye hospital because of blurred optic discs but was discharged & told normal for him and he saw the optician a few months ago who took pictures of his optic discs and compared them to last year’s pictures and said everything ok.

Just a bit worried now.

I think they're being extra cautious. I've been sent a letter saying I was CEV and should isolate a few months ago and have basically ignored it. Won't go into details but have a couple of very mild issues that might have prompted it.

I've also had Covid and almost didn't notice it at all.

It might be a good idea for him to get the double jab anyway though, just in case?

Does he have SEN? My 17 year old has been advised to have the 2 doses as due to this he's classed as clinically vulnerable even tho, health wise, he's really healthy

He doesn’t have and SEN. I just managed to get through to GP surgery & receptionist says nothing on his notes so I don’t know if that makes me feel better or worse.

All the kids here in Australia are getting two doses from age 12. We haven’t had any “extra” reactions or disproportionate figures in the younger demographics. Hope that helps.

A friend of mine received her vaccines early due to her migraines, so I suspect it's that.

Just got one for daughter today, we're assuming it's because she is celiac.

Moreworryagain · 27/10/2021 13:50

Migraine not considered a “serious” clinical risk so just don’t understand why he has been sent this letter. I’ve read through all the clinical risks on the NHS website & he doesn’t have any of them.

DS2 had that. he's 22 but got called for his vaccination in group 6, long before he was due. He asked me if I had kept secret from him some childhood illness Grin. The GPs could find nothing on his notes as to why.
I would just take the second dose and be pleased for the protection.

Is there anyone vulnerable in the household. My 12 & 15yo nephews have had both jabs because their father is immunocompromised

Moreworryagain · 27/10/2021 14:00

No one vulnerable in the household. I’ve just spent the past hour or so reading the “green book” which lists all conditions which could make someone clinically vulnerable & DS doesn’t meet any of the criteria and yet he received the letter so there must be something on his medical record.

The GP receptionist couldn’t find anything, she said she was checking his “medical summary” but perhaps a GP would know. The chances of getting to talk to a GP are slim and I don’t think it worthy of making an appointment so I guess it will remain a mystery.

Make a GP appointment to ask but don’t worry about it in the mean time (I know that’s easier said than done but if the receptionist can’t see anything on his notes and there is nothing you can think of it’s probably nothing).

Staffy1 · 27/10/2021 14:29

Or if you don’t want to make a GP appointment can the receptionist speak to them for you and get back to you?
