Where do you read?

When I had a commute I read on the train.

I've always read in bed at bedtime, since I was a child.

Perhaps on a sun lounger somewhere in summer.

I don't ever read downstairs or during the day at home. Why is that? I've had a whole evening myself which I wasted flicking through Netflix and fiddling with my phone. I have a really good book on the go upstairs, it would be a much better use of the evening. I'm contemplating going to bed now so I can read Grin

In bed before I go to sleep. I feel daft reading in the front room no idea why.

Mydogisagentleman · 27/10/2021 09:39

Mainly in bed.
Newspapers I read in the front room or kitchen

I often go to bed at about 8pm & read. I tend not to read downstairs in the day as the kids distract me.

In the car if DS is asleep when we arrive somewhere Grin

Anywhere and everywhere! I love a good novel. My house will one day sink without trace under the weight of books - I had to put 30 feet of bookshelving in the attic, as every room already had max bookcases. Grin

I never read in bed unless I'm ill. I did as a child and teen because it was the only place I wouldn't be disturbed and told to play with my younger siblings or generally be expected to talk to people and be sociable. Now I share my bed with DH and am a parent rather than living with my parents the bed is the only place I don't read!

I read on the sofa, at the kitchen table, standing in the kitchen between cooking tasks, in the bath, in the car waiting for one of the kids, and at work - but only on nights during the actual night after 10pm when we're there on call rather than actively working.

Mostly in bed (I love reading in the morning with a cuppa when not at work)
In the garden on a nice day.
The sign of a really good book is if it makes it into the living room and overtakes scrolling on phone and TV!

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 27/10/2021 09:47

Usually on the sofa, or I'll take a book out with me if I have some child free time and sit in a cafe to read. I used to read in bed as a child but I haven't as an adult because I found it sent me to sleep!

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 27/10/2021 09:48

Oh yes also in the bath if I get chance. Although with DC around, the days of a long soak and a good book are few and far between!

Chasingsquirrels · 27/10/2021 09:51

In the conservatory curled up on a tub chair.
On the sofa.
In bed.
On the toilet.
In the bath.
In the car waiting for a child.
On holiday.

I have audible and kindle apps on my phone so that when I sit down to muck about with my phone in the evening I can read instead (I have reading materials which are anything from trashy magazines to classic novels) and so that when I do housework I can listen on audible, or sometimes other podcasts. My commute used to be the perfect time, but it now much shorter and much busier and I usually use to make shopping lists, to do lists, respond to emails etc. Before that I used to always have a magazine or book in my bag though, and I do think it's a habit that's hard to pick up if you're not a book obsessive. My whole extended family and my parents are all avid readers, who actually kept book shelves in the bathroom for reading materials whilst you were in the bath/doing your business. I don't keep reading materials in the loo because it seems a bit gross/unhygienic but I do watch Netflix in the bath on my phone which is probably near enough the same thing tbh. I lived without a TV until I had kids, and TV was never central to my life growing up, so I think for me I associate down time and relaxing with reading something, whereas other people see it as effort or a bit boring so helps them sleep. For me reading is pure joy. I often have the same book in both print/kindle format and audiobook format so that I can listen while I do chores, and continue but with reading instead once I sit down and relax.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/10/2021 10:17

Mostly sofa and bed. I usually have a proper book on the go for downstairs, Kindle for bed and for any bus/train journey longer than about ten minutes. And obv. for on a plane.
Comfortable recliner in the garden in summer.

BarefootHippieChick · 27/10/2021 10:20

Anywhere!! I usually read in the living room in the evening because I prefer it to tv.

Angel2702 · 27/10/2021 10:34

Anywhere and everywhere. I always have my kindle in my bag. I often read in the car whilst waiting to pick kids up. I often read downstairs whilst the kids are watching something on the TV.

On the bus
In the bath
On the sofa (especially if we have a fire going)
In bed
In a pub on a Sunday afternoon if it's not crowded
