Anyone used a temporary filling?

I’ve lost a filling and as it’s not painful the dentist won’t see me and suggested a temporary filling. It’s very annoying and food keeps getting stuck in it.
I’ve bought the kit but no idea what to do? The filling is kind of the side of my tooth (almost like a wedge is missing)
If I can get the thing in, how long can it stay in?

Yes I have, the one I had you had to dry the tooth as much as possible then wet your fingers slightly and roll a little into a ball. Then stick it where it needs to go and smooth it out. I found the best way was to do it in layers, let it dry and then another on top as mine was kind of off to the side as well. Mine lasted 2 months until I could get to the dentist.
