Is there such a thing as a comfortable sofabed?

Looking for a sofabed for guests and can’t find anything!!

It will mainly be for my parents who are in their sixties so needs to be comfy for two people and not too low. Needs to be comfortable for stays of around 3-4 nights.

Amost all the reviews I have seen on the usual websites give decent ratings for style but usually only 2 or 3 stars for comfort. I am beginning to think that there is no such thing as a decent sofabed! However our spare room doubles up as an office and there isn’t enough space to sacrifice for a permanent double bed.

Any recommendations please? My parents are lovely and I want them to be comfortable!

Look at Studybed online. Perfect desk and bed with proper mattress combo.
The only problem is the price but you can take it with you if you move or sell on eBay

It's studybed.co.uk

There are other makers who sell similar items. Google wallbeds or Murphy beds to find them.

I was just eyeing up the cocoon ones
They claim to be comfy as sofas but also as beds as suitable for more than occasional use as they have pocket sprung mattress.
The catch…? The price!

Also seems like to get a king sized bed you need one of their L shaped sofas but I could be wrong.

At the other end of the price scale I’ve been relatively happy with the IKEA Lycksele one. I’ve added a thick mattress topper to make it slightly less firm. It’s not too low. But is only double width. I’d love if they did a wider version.

Those that fold flat so the sofa cushions form the bed are comfortable but tend to be singles. The ones with a separate bed that folds out are a bit rubbish.

Alternatively would a daybed+underbed combo work? Some of them can be set up as a zip and link king.

We have the ikea lycksele one. Also use a topper on it. But we give my parents our bed and sleep on it our selves.

I have a Danish one...Aslak by Innovation living www.innovationliving.com/products/by-type/sofa-beds

I don’t think there is really, did a lot of searching last year on it. The brand I came closest to buying was Furl www.furl.co.uk/, but they’re quite pricey and I didn’t want to buy one without going to show room. They have really good reviews.

I use the fold up beds from Jay-Be www.argos.co.uk/list/shop-for-jaybe-folding-guest-beds-at-argos/opt/sort:price:desc/ I think other retailers do their most premium one as a double but Argos has most reviews.

Made To Last have decent thick mattresses with theirs, lots of colour choices and not too hideously expensive

Thanks some really helpful suggestions here, much appreciated

@Nopetryagain sorry for continuing an old thread, but just wondering what you went with in the end as I’m in a very similar situation now. Thanks!

Nopetryagain · 31/10/2022 10:35

@SleeplessinUK34 no problem but unfortunately nothing that helpful as a new sofabed came up on freecycle and we took a punt on it. It’s a Habitat double one and is relatively comfortable but I wouldn’t pay full price for it (and I don’t put my parents on it when they visit, we let them have our bed and use the sofabed ourselves). Good luck!

My parents have a sofa bed from Sofas by Saxon. It’s a chesterfield style sofa and a frame that pulls out.

It’s very comfortable.
