Halloween Carved Pumpkin....when to put them outside?

I have three pumpkins ready to be carved. They all sit outside, on my doorsteps.
Is it too early to carve them and put a light in at night? Will they burn/decompose by the time it's Halloween night?
When will you put yours out?

Yup. For one night only. Halloween. Although I will probably leave the pumpkin outside until I dispose of it.
