Hi there, looking for recommendations for a present up to about £40. Child has just turned 5 and started with lego and can build following the instructions with much help.
Still quite heavily into Paw Patrol, gaining interest in Hotwheels, loves pretend play. Doesn't know Harry Potter yet.
What sort of set do you think would be popular?
I don't want it to be too hard so he loses interest.
He already has a box of just bricks and a base, and a figure or vehicle or two he had as presents (that has to be made to simple instructions)

Lego City is good. Or would be like one of the marvel sets?

They do a 4-7 range. They have a really nice schoolhouse In the Lego friends collection as well that I'd recommend.

Oh I'm sorry!! I didn't notice it's a he. The schoolhouse is very pink and has only girl characters (not that that's ok!!). Still they do the juniors range .

Annoying that the schoolhouse and friends is so pink and girly.
He does like superheroes but I think something related to school (just started reception) would be good!

Not sure about school related but my daughter loves the Ninjago sets and was quite happily building those type of sets from around 5 with help then by her self from 6/7 other than really tricky bits

The Friends school isn't pink. Not particularly 'girly' either. There's 3 Minidolls. 2 girls, 1 boy.

It's Duplo size but Mega Bloks have a Paw Patrol range out.

It looks pretty girly to me when made up!
Legoisthebest · 26/10/2021 12:54

Blue and brown is 'girly' is it? Interesting. There's a basketball net and bike included which according to another thread on here today are 'boys' things Grin

MummyJ12 · 26/10/2021 12:57

Lego city sets are great for that age group.

Legoisthebest · 26/10/2021 12:59

To be really picky makelove I checked on Bricklink. The Friends schoolhouse has 593 parts 23 of which are pink and of those 16 are flower pieces. So 7 pink pieces. I guess a boy can't possibly touch it now. Those 7 pieces might make his willy fall off. HmmGrin

I have two boys age 4 and 7 and they both love fire and police Lego sets. They also have an arctic exploration set but I think the fire and police have the most time spent playing, as they can act out various disasters, rescues, chases, emergencies etc.

They have added to their sets over time, at first I thought 'why do they need another fire set when they already have a fire engine?' but actually it's allowed them to set up increasingly elaborate emergency scenarios Grin
