Laptop or PC? Help please

Hi, I need advice on what IT equipment to get for home. Currently I use a Vaio laptop which is slowly dying a death. It lives on a desk in the corner of a room, so I don't need it to be portable. I mainly use it for typing reports and other "word processing" functions.

I have a budget of up to £1500 thanks to a scheme at work. A PC would fit in the space as the tower could go on the floor and the monitor and keyboard on the desk. Equally, a laptop is fine. I know I don't want a tablet or 2 in 1 as I use one for work. All I know I want/need is something with good storage, that isn't slow like my current one, a decent hard-wearing keyboard, and that can connect to WiFi.

Has anyone got any suggestions please? At the moment, I can't go to physical shops to see what I like, so am reliant on the wisdom of Mumsnet

If you really definitely don't want to sit on the sofa with it or take it anywhere, a PC will cost a lot less for the same spec as an equivalent laptop.

This one?

I purchased this 6 months back, totally love it. The only down side is speakers, they are not very loud although the sound is good quality.

Great, thank you for the replies. I have a tablet for when I want to mess about online while watching TV, although my phone does nearly everything that I want in that regard. I actually bought my tablet/2in1 as a replacement for my laptop then realised typing long documents on it wasn't easy for me. Now I have the chance to get a proper replacement, I want to make sure what I get is what I want/need, if that makes sense?

Dh just got a new Mac mini, under £1000 he already had a nice screen and keyboard. Sits on a little desk in the room we call an office.

You'll get a much better spec for your money with a tower rather than laptop regardless but it depends if you want the space saving a laptop gives.
