It's awful. All tits and knickers. No one can act. It's not scary at all.

I thought I was missing out on something good for years with all the hype Confused

Sounds like you are viewing it with a 2020s expectation....

Although to be fair I wasn't overly keen on it back in the day either 🤷🏼‍♀️

SirensofTitan · 25/10/2021 21:48

Are you too young to have seen it when it was first released? I didn't know it was a cult classic, just a typical popular film of its time.

Very few films if any made in the 1970s are going to have stood the test of time, that's to be expected imo

EverybodyScream · 25/10/2021 22:03

I'm almost 40.

I just don't see the appeal, its a cringefest.

Not seen Halloween so can't comment on that, but watch poltergeist the other day and that bloody clown 🤡, freaked me out thirty years ago, still creeps me out now I'm an adult supposedly.

Cult classics are generally shit. That's why they're cult classics, rather than just classics.

Take Sharknado, for example.

MercyBooth · 26/10/2021 02:17

The Legacy is a 70s classic. Talking Pictures shows it occasionally.

Me too, and the tree coming through the window terrified me! It was on the other night and my 9 year old saw a bit and thought it was hilariously awful. I guess we were just more easily scared ConfusedGrin

I think to modern eyes it might seem cliche and unscary but Halloween was the first film to do a lot of the things that then became standard in every horror/ slasher film.

Loved Salems Lot in the early 80s. Watched it with DS2 14 on Sunday. Crickey - talk about slow and clunky. Watched half of it and then he went on his phone Blush

Hemingwayscats · 26/10/2021 10:55

I think that’s precisely why it is a cult classic, because it’s so rubbish. Most cult classics are similar- poor acting, even worse script but somehow still enjoyable. Back to the future is a prime example, absolutely shocking but still somehow enjoyable.

TheSquashyHatOfMrGnosspelius · 26/10/2021 10:58

It's brilliant for the music alone though.

Zebradanio · 26/10/2021 11:00

It was probably seen to be more scary at the time. But it's not scary at all compared to modern viewing. The acting is crap undoubtedly. But it is an absolute classic. I think it's great.

It was bloody terrifying when I was 12. Grin Don't know what my friend's parents were thinking, letting a bunch of us watch that. I had nightmares for years.
