I'm such an idiot!

Got some venison burgers from a farm shop at the weekend. Decided to have them this evening for dinner. Because I'm a bit useless with cooking, I used the health grill thingy I have. Got to the kitchen to find out that, while I'd remembered to get me dinner out of the oven last night, I'd forgotten to turn the oven off. I'm not going to think about how much that's going to effect the energy bill this month.
Never mind, I'm not using the oven tonight so nothing can go wrong, right?
Heat the grill up, take the plasticky cover off the top of the burgers, put burgers on grill. Once cooked take them off. Start eating the burgers. Turns out that there was a plastic cover on the bottom of the burgers I didn't know about.
I'm starting to think I really shouldn't be allowed to cook unsupervised.

Oh dear! We have all been there... I am definitely getting worse with age though I don't cook much as on my own anyway (perhaps that is why!)

The first time I cooked a frozen pizza I didn't realise it had a polystyrene base below it.

How many people have cooked the turkey with the giblets bag still in it? The plastic they use must be heat safe because so many people do it!

The polystyrene probably had as much nutrition as the frozen pizza Grin

OP, I smiled at your post because it reminds me of one of those days when I wonder if I'm losing my mind (Personally, I may be). We all have one of those days and you're not an idiot. I try to take a deep breath, compose myself and focus a lot harder Flowers

Ah OP you made me smile.

Several years ago our microwave packed in. DH, ever the penny pincher, was showing me £25 specials that wouldn't even fit our dinner plates. I told him that if he was going to cheap out on one, I'd rather go without, thinking he'd crack long before me.
The following night we were late home and I had a ready meal curry in the fridge. Normally this gets zapped for 7 minutes, but not having the microwave I half read the instructions and whacked it in the oven. Turned out it was one of those you had to decant into an ovenproof dish and the resulting mess from melted plastic and curry was spectacular.

DH was so pissed off about cleaning the oven he bought the microwave I was looking at the following day 😂

Thanks everyone for making me feel a bit better. That was, until I remembered that I'd left the drip tray for the health grill in the oven when I turned it on earlier and found it kind of trying to form a symbiotic relationship with the oven tray.
I've now had to pay over the odds for a new(er) one because the official store where they're £4 doesn't get them back in stock until December.

I cooked the oven instructions and warranty in their plastic bag the first time I used my new oven x
