Baking gingerbread men quick question

guiltynetter · 24/10/2021 14:46

My children are begging to make gingerbread men

We have all the ingredients but only self raising flour, and not plain. I can only find recipes using plain flour online.

Will this work? We all have covid so we can't go out to buy some plain. Im dying to entertain them but don't want to waste ingredients if they're going to be weird. Thanks!

No it will be fine. If the recipe includes baking powder add a bit less.

They might have a slightly different texture but they will still taste great. Like the pp said, if there are any other raising agents like bicarb or baking powder, I would leave them out.

They might just puff up and spread a bit more than usual so leave extra space in between them on the baking sheet when you pop them in the oven.

Post a pic to show us how it goes!

I don't even know why I said gingerbread men cos we have Halloween cookie cutters so they're actually gingerbread Pumpkin shaped biscuits 😊

Thank you for the advice I omitted the bicarb of soda and they turned out fine just slightly more puffy than usual. I'd like to comment if they taste nice but I'm pretty sure we have all lost our sense of taste and smell now 🤷🏼‍♀️ the texture is nice!

It filled an hour anyway with the decorating 😊
