Boyfriend to Partner

DD1 is about to leave home and move in with her BF of 4+ years. Is this the point at which we refer to him as her partner? (I've been known to call him my SIL by accident before now.)

I'm 45 and my dad refers to my DP as 'Syd's boyfriend'... 🤷‍♀️

It's a personal thing that's up to you. When I moved in with my then boyfriend I called him my boyfriend even though we lived together (renting). I think I only ever started calling him my partner once we owned our own home together and had serious things like wills and joint finances, but even then I think I used boyfriend and partner pretty interchangeably (now I call him my husband Grin)

My step grandmother - who is extreamly serious and proper - started referring to (now) DH as my ‘live-in lover’ at that point Grin

As long as you don’t do that, you’ll be grand.

Seems like as good a time as any - perhaps take your lead from DD though? How does she refer to him?

Boyfriend/girlfriend & partner are exactly the same thing.

Why change? What wrong with boyfriend?

Idk, my boyfriend is my husband and I still often call him my boyfriend. He'll always be my boyfriend!
