I know, another one of these threadsGrin but this has really been playing on my mind today

Driving on the M5 this morning, the car next to me had a man driving, a child in the car and no other adults. The child looked around 2 years old, maybe slightly younger. He wasn’t in a car seat, was just stood up on the front seat leaning on the dashboard with no seatbelt on. He was fiddling with things and trying to climb everywhere, including climbing over the driver who kept getting distracted

He was beside and in front of me for quite a long stretch in traffic about 50/60mph and at no point did he attempt to secure the child anywhere

I tried to report to 101 online as that’s how our local force does it, but there weren’t any options to report something like that. I know it’s his choice, and he will have to deal with the consequences if something happened, but I was just so shocked seeing someone do that and putting their child at risk like that

Should have called 999, it was a crime in progress.

Mylee · 23/10/2021 19:06

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat I did think that when I got home and wish I had done it, I just wasn’t sure if it was something they would class as an emergency

I would have rang 999.

rrhuth · 23/10/2021 19:15

Yes that was serious enough for 999.

You should report now, explain you tried earlier, if you have the reg number.

Legal requirement to have children secured in the car. Report.

Goodness that’s scary! Perhaps he undid his seat ? Was there anywhere they could have actually stopped ?

I doubt it, you would stop or at least slow down if this was the case.
