Could any possibly tell me what fees I’d have pay if I ordered something for 40 dollars from USA to uk? Not sure wether to order if I’ll be hit with a big fee on delivery.

You’re likely to be hammered by import duty and VAT on something of that value. Plus another 8 quid-ish by the U.K. shipper. Low-value times of less that £15 can often slip through but probs not 40 dollars.

This is the main reason I don’t buy from US sellers any longer

You'll be charged UK VAT (20% of the price paid converted into £) plus a handling fee from the post office / courier which could be anywhere from £2-£20 depending on which courier they use. You wouldn't have to pay customs duty unless it's booze / tobacco etc. as it's not high enough value.

Check though, as some websites will charge you the customs fees upfront so you wont have to pay anything when it 'lands' in the UK (I think Amazon US do this).
