Carbs with carbs, and a side order of carbs. WTF M & S?

Good grief, no wonder we have an obesity crisis. Was in M & S cafe for a mid morning coffee and spotted their latest menu. Included is a mac and cheese toasted sarnie, with which you can have a side order of fries for an extra £2. Can't believe they seriously thought this was a good idea.
Should probably have posted this in AIBU! what's the most bizarre offering you have seen on a menu?

Of course they don't they are offering a toasties and chips many cafes offer the same sort of deals.

mrsbyers · 23/10/2021 14:18

No difference between having Pasta with garlic bread which is pretty standard

turnthebiglightoff · 23/10/2021 14:20

It's not "obscenely unhealthy". You are obscenely irritating though, OP. Grin

iwishiwasafish · 23/10/2021 14:20

Oh that sounds lovely Smile

I’m guessing you also have strong objections to the more traditional cream tea OP?

Maybe just don’t order it.

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/10/2021 14:21

@mynameiscalypso so normalising the consumption of very calorific food, with little real nutritional value, over healthier alternatives, at a time when so many struggle with health issues related to obesity is not a terrible way to live?

My local Chinese do curry sauce rice and chips. It's very popular 😃

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/10/2021 14:22

@turntheniglightoff
Thank you for coming to that conclusion based on one thread, you sound lovely too.

stingofthebutterfly · 23/10/2021 14:23

I don't like mac and cheese so wouldn't be for me, but they're a business and want the customers. More people are likely to go for that than a healthy alternative. They don't care how obese people become. They're not there to police what others eat. I don't see an issue.

Saltpepperbutter · 23/10/2021 14:23

What I have to say about it is Bugger Off with the ‘Mac and cheese’ nonsense.

It’s macaroni cheese.

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/10/2021 14:23

@iwishiwasafish don't be ridiculous, a cream tea is food of the gods!

OP posts:
SpiderinaWingMirror · 23/10/2021 14:23

Sounds lovely. I assume that before rolling it out country wide they have actually done some market research

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/10/2021 14:24

@Saltpepperbutter well yes, that I do agree with!

OP posts:
Pythonista · 23/10/2021 14:25

If only people were at liberty to make their own food choices

AmDillDandin · 23/10/2021 14:26

I would never buy that because I can't bear macaroni cheese. Yet I still have a sizeable arse.

Who can I blame??

mynameiscalypso · 23/10/2021 14:26

It's not bad or good. It's just food. There's no moral imperative involved.

Yourstupidityexhaustsme · 23/10/2021 14:27

Oh dear.... how terrible...

Grabs car keys and starts to edge towards the door for an early tea

Sirzy · 23/10/2021 14:28

So what would you suggest for the menu then?

A glass of water and a bowl of salad? Anything else permitted?

JaninesEyePatch · 23/10/2021 14:28

@Babybellblue

Not just unhealthy. It's Obscenely unhealthy.

Smile

🤣
hettol · 23/10/2021 14:29

But do they have a moral obligation not to condone something that is blatantly unhealthy?

please no

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/10/2021 14:29

@Pythonista because that's going terribly well isn't it?
I'm not suggesting a totalitarian regime where people are not allowed to eat what they want, but i do think some common sense from food retailers and providers about what they offer and promote might help people make better decisions.

OP posts:
PearlclutchersInc · 23/10/2021 14:29

Strongly suspect that an M&S macaroni cheese toasty is least of a lot of people's problems and that the demographic that M&S aims for is not them!

Row1n · 23/10/2021 14:30

So nowhere can sell triple chocolate cakes, burgers and chips etc etc? You want to take away that choice from everyone?

Also restricting foods to only healthy ones does not help people lose weight long term because it doesnt address the reason they over ate and gained weight in the first place

lljkk · 23/10/2021 14:30

what's the most bizarre offering you have seen on a menu?

I haven't actually seen it yet, but that lab grown meat journos talk about. I'm braced for that.

I personally dislike Seitan & feel slightly boak if I see it on a menu. Ditto anything with wheatgrass in it.

The menu item that OP described sounds delish.

I would eat this

AudTheDeepMinded · 23/10/2021 14:31

@Sirzy no, that would be ridiculous.
