Our kids are 7 and 5.
Have you done it? Are there good family hotels?
I have been there approx 10 yrs ago pre kids!

My kids were the exact same age when we went to Sorrento. They loved it.

We stayed in a family room at the Ulysse (which calls itself a hostel but is really a hotel) which was a handy walk to the shops and restaurants.

We did day trips to Pompeii and Capri which were fantastic, otherwise just pottered around the town. The beach isn't fantastic but ok for a quick dip to cool off.

Sorry, just double checked and the hotel is called Ulisse.

We went when DD was 10, stayed in La Solara which is a couple of miles out of Sorrento but they had a regular shuttle bus. It was quieter than being in the town and had an excellent swimming pool - we went at Easter and DD and I had it nearly to ourselves.
Tbh I think that age or older may be better if you want to visit Pompeii, Herculaneum (easily accessible by local train), Capri and Vesuvius. We also took a longer train ride from the main station in Pompeii town to Paestum which was fabulous. There's a lot to do, some of which entailed quite a bit of walking.

We went to Sorrento a couple of years ago with two young kids. It was great. We stayed in an air b n b that had a pool shared between the two apartments. It was gorgeous
