I think this is quite interesting

Further info: UK, England, pension contributions for education deducted

So if you earn £80k, what figure over the year do you think you would see in your pay packet

www.thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php

4500 less pension contributions

WendyYourExcellency · 22/10/2021 21:57

I was going to say the salary calculator, which provided you get pension and tax code right is usually spot on.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/10/2021 21:58

So a range of responses which I expected

£80,000 salary

£49,200 take home (£4010 per month)

Yep, about 4K or slightly less.

What is interesting about it?

MrsAvocet · 22/10/2021 22:00

I used to earn £85k and my net pay was around £4.5k per month if I recall rightly.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/10/2021 22:04

Interesting because I overheard someone on the bus talking about how a third of her income was taken in tax and pension - and neither of her friends believed her

And I mean they REALLY didn't believe her - were saying she was lying/complaining/she should be grateful to have a job

And it struck me that maybe people don't know this Confused

I mean obviously youse on Mumsnet know Grin

There is a net pay calculator online. Not sure what the point of this thread is.

cloudtree · 22/10/2021 22:21

When I was on 80k it was £1000 a week. I used to get by saying “make it to the end of the week and it’s £1000”

bellaiceberg · 22/10/2021 22:47

all of it, and then chew on my own skeleton.
