Hi there, yes they will…it will be backdated to when the claim was made.

It seems to be taking so long at the moment for a decision.

Mick91 · 22/10/2021 17:22

Thanks for your reply, it seems to be taking forever sent 10 pages of evidence when applied, hoping to hear back very soon.

the same date as DLA as I’m trying to get in touch with UC and it’s taken forever for me to get a reply back

You need to request it be backdated, it wont be done automatically. If/ when the DLA is awarded you need to report the change on oyur home page and put the date that it was awarded from. You can also ask for backdating of UC carers element back to that date if your child has been awarded at least middle rate care component and you have been providing 35 hours of care a week. It will then go to a decision maker for back dating. You can claim carers element even if you don't claim carers allowance or earn too much to claim carers allowance as long as you provide the care.

Have you reported on your journal home page - change of circumstance that your child is now classed as disabled ? You will need to do this. i think you need to go into the section where your children are listed and add that they are now disabled. It will ask what rates they receive I think. then leave journal message asking for back date. Also report yourself as a carer if you want to receive the carers element ( see my post above ).

Lo12345 · 21/04/2022 14:57

@Babyroobs hi yeah I have reported it on my change circumstances and I’ve also left messages on my journal and no one is getting back to me so it’s frustrating she is on high rate care I have put down I’m caring for her as I’m her main care giver
I spoke to DLA yesterday but when I reported a change I put that it got awarded from 21/02/2022 but it got awarded from the 02/02/2022 but as I have t received any letters yet I was unaware I just had back payment in my account I have put on my journal the right date now but DLA said they can get in to there system and see when they have backdated it from

Lo12345 · 21/04/2022 15:07

Also does anyone no how much you get on your UC for having child on DLA they did mention about housing element increasing when I spoke to DLA

For higher rate care you will get something like £414 extra for the disabled child element and then £168.81 carers element per month in addition to the actual DLA, so a lot better off. The rate is a lot less for middle rate care.

Yes Uc will backdate to when the DLA was awarded but it will go to a decision maker so may take a few weeks.

Malimum · 07/11/2022 10:40

Does anyone know how long it takes for uc to backdate disability?

barnsleylass86 · 24/11/2022 09:40

@Malimum did you receive the backdated money for child disability . I left a note on my journal on the 11th of November and did the change of circumstances form. Just had my statement and the element has been added but still no news for back pay. I've rang up and they said to leave another journal message. So frustrating as no one is getting back to me

Shauna2866 · 24/11/2022 18:00

@barnsleylass86 just keep leaving messages I had to and they soon respond and if they don’t then you can put a complaint in and they will soon sort it out I got mine backdated

monik19 · 03/03/2023 09:38

Hello. I've been waiting for 4 months for the care element to be back-dated, but I haven't received an answer yet, you don't know what to do

Kelly1010 · 09/11/2023 11:22

Hello

I’ve applied for backpay on universal credit do you know 100% if they do backpay and is the backpay for child element and the care element

thank you 😊

Lo12345 · 09/11/2023 15:46

@Kelly1010 yeah they do back pay it it will go to a decision maker I have asked for my child element to be backdated 2 weeks ago and they still haven’t got back to me alls they said is it’s gone to a DM and they will update my journal once a decision is made

Kelly1010 · 09/11/2023 16:36

Thank you they put on my journal they have till the 19th to make a decision, I work will that go into account aswell.

Lo12345 · 09/11/2023 20:35

No element is protected on uc so if you work 16 hours or less you won’t get as much deducted from your uc entitlement
how many hours do you do ??
but no money will be deducted from your actual backpay xx

Kelly1010 · 09/11/2023 21:09

Hey I work 20 hours a week?
I was waiting for a decision for dla for 5 months so will uc backpay the 5 months for care element and child element because if they do it’s going to be quite a bit is and it.

Lo12345 · 10/11/2023 06:51

@Kelly1010 hi yeh they will back pay the 5 months to you I’m wishing to hear back as mine is 8 months but I’ve still not heard anything back yet
x

Kelly1010 · 10/11/2023 08:09

Hey

that’s such a long wait did they not even give you a time scale like they have with mine but thinking to myself what is the point them giving me a time scale if you have been waiting 8 months.

will they take in affect my earning because off me working to you know.

thank you 😊

Pinkygem6 · 22/04/2024 13:38
