Low sugar snack ideas

DS has been advised to cut back on sugar, especially between meals. He's a snacker! Beyond breadsticks and veg I'm struggling for ideas - any child friendly low sugar snack suggestions welcome!

I'm going to make these tomorrow! I will send a pic of my attempt!

This depends on why he has been told to cut back on sugar, for teeth/general health loads of good ideas above. If it's related to diabetes or insulin resistance a lot of them won't be great

Cold meats
Cheese and crackers
Olives
Veg with various dips and flavours of houmous to mix it up.

Salted popcorn
nuts
babybels or othe rmini cheese portions
cold sausages
mini sausage rolls
cucumber chunks
humous in pita or with carrot sticks
mini dim sum dumplings or gyoza. Buy them quite cheaply in the freezer section and then warm in microwave.
cherry tomatoes or strawberries - bit of sugar but not like sweets!

If it’s teeth - fresh whole fruit is fine. I usually make mine a sandwich or toast/crumpet/bagel etc with butter. They can have something like that, fruit, or SF cereal/porridge

If it's teeth my friend is a dental nurse and said snacking (full stop, on anything) is what is worst for teeth. Obviously one or two scheduled snacks are ok but ba lot of grazing is very bad.

PaperMonster · 23/10/2021 09:21

@nancybotwinbloom - I hope you enjoy them!

nancybotwinbloom · 23/10/2021 11:54

@PaperMonster made them. I added some black pepper and rosemary also. They have turned out fab. Thank you for posting this recipe.

PaperMonster · 23/10/2021 13:33

@nancybotwinbloom oh fabulous!

No dentist in the world would stop an 8yr old child eating an apple. Sweets and surgery drinks yes. He is 8 and needs fruit in his diet.
