Sports club

My son asked me to sign up to a sport club after school thing, it’s only one day a week for 1 hour but now I’ve paid for it he told me he doesn’t like it and doesn’t want to go, I had to pay upfront for it for 10 weeks, he has been 4 times and I don’t really have the money to throw away so I’m quite Annoyed, would you encourage him to still go or just lose the money?

If I've paid, they go. They can stop at the end of the paid sessions. I've always made this clear to them before they start any activity.

I did make it clear but he is telling me he didn’t realise it was more than a one day thing despite me telling him it was and it saying on the form it was for 10 weeks 🤦🏻

You have basically three options
You let him not go, waste of money, risk of doing it again etc.
He sticks it out, learns to read the fine print, you made a commitment, I paid etc.
He does extra jobs for you to earn some money and pays you back for that weeks session if he doesn't go.

Honestly, unless there's a real reason (terrible bullying, he's terrified of the activity etc) then I'd say tough. Similar to PP, once I've paid, they go to the end of the committed time/ season. He may also start to enjoy it more. Both mine tell me they're quitting rugby at least once a season and then get right back into it. Sometimes they just have one or two bad sessions.

How old is he?

TurnUpTurnip · 22/10/2021 09:46

He is 9, it was called a multi skills club so he thought it would be a range over activities which it did say it would be, but he has said since he’s been there it is only football which he isn’t overly keen on

In that case, I'd call and query that with the organisers.

purplemunkey · 22/10/2021 12:26

At 9, I'd think he's old enough to stick with something if you've paid for it. However given your update, if 'multi-skills' has actually just turned out to be 'football' I'd complain and see if you can get a refund on the remaining classes. Same as you would if you were mis-sold an adult class.

TurnUpTurnip · 22/10/2021 12:34

Thanks. Yes the form said that it would be a range of different sporting activities including something about parachutes which he was particularly keen on but him and my other son that attends have both said that they only play football, I know he wouldn’t have signed up to it if was advertised as a football club, it’s through the school so I will speak to them about it.

Ok, well that's a different situation. Call the organisers. Get a refund if not as advertised.
