Alexa (echo) - epic mistakes on shopping list

Apparently someone added ‘Bleach spark chameleon’ to the shopping list. 🤷‍♀️ I have no idea what it’s actually supposed to be.

Anyone else have any comedy Alexa mishaps?

Can't help you with that one but my phone has just told me the weather in Egypt because I mumbled 'check weather and do some washing' to myself.

I never use that feature normally, so I've no idea why it's decided to do that. I don't live in Egypt BTW.

InglouriousBasterd · 21/10/2021 13:01

No idea what was meant to be added, but Alexa added ‘feelings’ to my shopping list alongside fruit and salad Grin

Sparklfairy · 21/10/2021 13:02

Alexa is scaring me lately. I asked her to set a reminder and she said, "OK sparkl, I'll remind you!" Don't use my name bitch, I don't remember setting that up.

Its spooky when I distractedly ask her to turn the lights off and automatically thank her Blush then sometimes she'll say you're welcome.

But this morning I couldn't find my lighter. Hunted for a minute and sighed, saying, "where's my lighter!?" out loud and she said, "I don't know". I didn't even say Alexa...

Since the last update my Apple Watch has been mishearing all kinds of shit. I'm thinking of getting it an ear trumpet.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/10/2021 13:05

Ours is under the impression that we love 'Into the Unknown' from Frozen 2. All sorts of music requests default to this.

Ghostlyfeet · 21/10/2021 13:10

I found "sister" on my shopping list. I still can't figure out if it misheard something or my daughter Thought this was the best way to tell me she wanted a sibling GrinSmile

Mjjbgfessrgb · 21/10/2021 13:13

Mine added a "man". I'm fine without, thank you.

I thought that's how they were programmed...you say thanks, she says you're welcome.

Fillings? Like for apple pie etc?
Sparklfairy · 21/10/2021 13:17

@DaisyNGO I've had her over two years and she only recently seems to have started doing it.

Or I suspect I've spent far too much time on my own through lockdowns etc and just like someone, anyone, to talk to Grin

Perhaps she feels she knows you well enough now 😂

You can apparently change or give Alexa an instruction that if she is asked to play certain songs, she defaults to playing just one - whatever has been selected as the annoying song. Do you think someone is playing a trick on you???
PrincessWatermelon · 21/10/2021 13:25

I have attached mine, in case you think I'm making it up.

I was quite offended actually, and wondered whether someone was messing with me! But my young kids do not know "Cunthole" and we'd had no one else in the house.

I wonder if it was "kitchen roll".... but Alexa needs to wash her mouth out with soap!

And Unicorn Sprinkles are exactly what my DD7 asked for.

I can't remember what I asked for but the item added to the shopping list was "pickles from Las Vegas" I didn't even ask for pickles!!!

We use bring so have to say "computer open bring" and then add to the list

I call it computer so I can pretend I'm living on the USS Enterprise NCC 1701D

lucysmam · 21/10/2021 13:37

Ours do this with announcements. I'll announce upstairs that it's tea time so the girls come down...when I swipe the notification on my phone, it's heard something bizzarre like "Fred's on the phone" Confused 🤷‍♀️

WisestIsShe · 21/10/2021 13:41

I asked mine to add handkerchiefs and she added pink cheese!
Even odder is when I asked DH what he thought it should be, he guessed handkerchiefs straight away. Hmm

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 21/10/2021 13:43

@LookItsMeAgain not unless youngest DD did it by accident.

I control all the Alexa devices in the house. I may have given them all silly names...

Mine added gun, I mean it was probably suppose to be gum, but when I was looking at the list in the supermarket I was ShockGrin

The original error made me laugh, the subsequent listing of "Unicorn sparkles" absolutely finished me.

I don't have one, but a lady I work for does, she and her children all work at home so are stationed in their offices/rooms. She had showed me how to use Alexa downstairs so I could have some music whilst I worked and as I was working in her room I thought I would ask the Alexa in residence to supply some tunes:

Me: Alexa play Classic FM

Alexa: playing...Classic FM

ALEXANDER ARMSTRONG BOOMS OUT AT APPROXIMATELY 800 DECIBELS ACROSS THE ENTIRE FIRST FLOOR (because apparently they all have a unit in their respective rooms): GOOD MORNING AND HOORAY! and proceeds into something ridiculous, I forget the piece but think 'flight of the bumble bee' or similar.

I'm frantically whispering "Alexa shut uuuupp" because I don't want to make it worse by shouting. She didn't seem to hear me and I had to be rescued by my employer, who thankfully found the entire thing incredibly funny!

I now have a radio app on my phone.

Siri apparently does this too now, I thanked a stranger for holding a door open for me the other day at which point she loudly announced 'You're welcome' from my pocket!
Sparklfairy · 21/10/2021 19:41

@Gemster19 omg that made me laugh out loud Grin

It does amuse me when I'm on the phone to my DM and tell Alexa to turn the lights off here. My Alexa will ignore me completely but DM's will turn her lights off as I'm on speaker Grin
