Has anyone had a courier ask for payment on delivery?

Is this happening? I had a delivery today from DX and the email notification included a warning not to pay on delivery if asked and to report it. My delivery man was just fine, polite and helpful and no mention of payment (I had paid with order online). So I am just wondering how this happening? They must be asking for cash as card payment would be easily tracked and proven so are some deliverers targeting those they see as vulnerable? Has anyone heard of this? I know there is a shortage of drivers so are some dodgy people taking advantage?

I had to pay the import duty on an item I’d bought just after Brexit. Gave the driver a cheque.

When I worked for a online retail company we had one incident where a delivery driver had tried to get the customer to pay to receive their parcel. I wasn't aware of any other instances, so it happens but it's rare.

Thanks JayAlfred and Medusa, I was surprised by the email but they must have had a problem to give the warning and I do think it is good they did that. 2 years ago i did get a text saying I needed to pay £12 extra for a delivery which confused me but it turned out to be customs due to Royal mail on something I had mistakenly ordered from USA so legitimate. I like to think I am aware of online dangers but it shows we can all get confused and end up paying for it.

If it's Royal Mail I think they'll put a card through the door and you have to go to the sorting office to pay any charges eg unpaid postage or customs dues. So you know that you are paying the right person and it's not a scam.

Not sure how it works with other delivery services though.

That's why I was surprised to get a text but I went to their website and entered the ref number and it was legitimate. With this warning from DX I am just thinking it can't be a profitable scam as surely it would be detected almost immediately and the courier sacked so I am wondering if they have had to lower employment standards due to increased demand?
