My DS is 5 ( year one) but been doing Minecraft about a year. He loves zombies, but I do worry about the fighting/ killing aspect a bit, him being so young. He's very into the quests in Minecraft Dungeons, but is slightly limited by his reading ability. He's getting there.

He says he wants a new game and I was wondering about Roblox? He already plays sonic the hedgehog and driving car type games, but looses interest in those. Minecraft he's played daily ( with a limit) for a year on iPad and / or X box.

I’d avoid Roblox for as long as possible. My Ds 7 has become obsessed with among us and I’m still battling everyday to explain why he can’t have it. It’s the chat functions and the voice chats that cause the issue for me.

If he loves zombies etc he’s probably love plants vs zombies. We’ve compromised on this and he loves it.

On another note, I still have 7 to limited to creative mode in minecraft. Do you all allow survival and if so at what age did you?

I allowed survival when DS was about 5/6 ish, don't remember exactly but quite young. After I found out his cousin had let him have a go on his console and he was ok with it.

Roblox is great, though I would set the privacy to "chat off" so they can't talk to people on there, regularly check he is not accepting friend requests too. Roblox is a series of games in one platform.

Mine loved Lego Worlds at that age, lets them actually build stuff but it’s not scary at all.

Ok will have a think on it. I don't want to be endlessly buying games here and there for him as adds up.

On Minecraft DS still plays in creative, unless it's marketplace freebie that doesn't have a creative setting. He used to get upset about being killed when first playing, so always went creative. As he also plays Minecraft Dungeons there isn't creative mode.
@Yellow85 plants v zombies looks ace

i play roblox and there is a cool game called rails unlimited and in that you can drive realistic trains and crash too (if you're not careful)

At age 5, I'd say Minecraft is plenty. My son is 8, he sometimes plays on the server games (similar to player generated games in Roblox) but I talk to him regularly about if he sees anything inappropriate. Chat is completely switched off too.

At your Ds's age I would be looking at Mario games - they are very age appropriate and there is no need for him to have access to lots games that require him to play online.

Our favourites are:

Mario Odyssey
Mario Maker
Mario Kart

Probably won't be long before he's into Pokemon and there are lots of those games too.
