Smear tomorrow and hair anxiety

I’ve got my smear test tomorrow. I’ve shaved my legs which was a huge task as I’ve not done that for years it feels like but I’ve only trimmed my pubic hair. It’s stressing me out as I used to shave it all off. The last time I had a smear there would have been no hair down there. It’s just making me feel off about it all.

I know it’s a silly thing to be worried about, normally I just worry about whether to leave my socks on or not.

Honestly you should have seen my pubic forest last time I had a vaginal scan.

I could have plaited.

As long as you wash just before hand they couldn't give less of a shit. Is easier to clean the lube of after if your bare I suppose.

I doubt the nurse will remember what you looked like 3 years ago...

They've seen a million women as nature made them. Why not be ashamed for not being bald, while you're about it?

The nurse will just be glad that you're attending your smear test. Your pubic hair style, however wild, will be of no concern.

I was a practicing nurse, I don’t remember one vagina or penis of the thousands of patients I nursed over 20 years. Not one. They might have been hairy or not- I’ve no recollection. I remember some people and how patient they were with me doing their dressing, or putting in a catheter. That’s all. Really go in there . I find covering my eyes , with my elbow. helps me have a smear. Do what needs to done, and forget all about it.

I think it would be weird to remove your pubes for a smear test. Like youre trying to impress the nurse with your grooming or something. What's wrong g with just being clean, but natural?

When I had a medical procedure before, I apologised that I hadn't 'trimmed' down below and the nurse said when it's shaved it's more prone to infection so they like to see it natural! Thats always stuck with me! But it's their job, like a PP said, they won't even look at it as though it's a vagina, they'll just do what they need to do and won't think about it ever again. You'll be fine

Unless your hair is so thick that it prevents them doing the test they won’t give a stuff!

I went for my smear today. I was more worried about if I would have to take my boots off. You will be fine . As long as your clean . Goodluck .

They'll have seen every possible arrangement of pubes, and I imagine they only notice the very ornate (and the unclean).

Please don't give it a thought. Your pubes are of no interest to medical staff, honestly.

They won't care as long as you're clean. Having hair there is the natural state, and it's there for a reason.

Another vote over here for "they honestly don't give a toss". Please don't let worries about hair put you off going, it won't phase the nurse in the slightest xx

I totally overthink a smear test and I actually let my leg and pubic hair grow a bit so she doesn't think I'm showing off with my smooth skin. I usually make a joke about how hairy my legs are too, just in case she hadn't noticed.

I had to go for a colposcopy after an abnormal smear. The nurse took me aside afterward to explain to me that doing anything with your pubes was all derived from porn and it’s a male expectation that us women shouldn't be conforming to. She went on to tell me that I shoul stop shaving as it’s not good for the ‘area’. I was mortified.

Like did she look at my vag and think - too much efforts been put in here - I need to have a word 🤣

I hope the nurse is paying more attention to the procedure...the last one I had took about 30 seconds and was so straightforward. The doctor who did the previous one made such a hash I thought she was looking for Narnia!

Quite simply, the nurse won't care.

I went for an ultrasound wearing these pants
Pulled my jeans waistband down and went "oh FFS" to myself
Staff were she said she would laugh all day and it had cheered her right up
After those, I didn't think they would have noticed if my pubes were pink
