Any females out there got a male best friend?

And if so,do you constantly get the 'Are you an item?' question from friends/family? One of my best friends is a man,and I do get a bit fed up with the constant inferences from some people that we must be romantically involved! Why can't some people accept that a man and a woman can be just friends?! I'd be interested in hearing how others in this situation deal with this.

I have 2 very close male friends, and we had some speculation at the beginning but as we have gotten older no one questions it now. My DH knows them really well, and I know their wives! Just ignore the comments.

Yes we've been best friends since 17/18, never any romantic/sexual involvement even when we were flatmates. Very much a brother and sister type relationship.

Yes my bestie is a bloke. When people question our dynamic I always explain that he’s like my brother. There’s never been anything romantic between us (and we’ve definitely been drunk enough if anything was going to happen it would have!). I’ve been married for years. He’s in a long term relationship. Sadly he lives on the other side of the world..last time he came over a colleague questioned the dynamics and asked what DH thought of our relationship. I said they get on really well and DH just sees my best mate like my brother!

Ah! Fair enough 😀 sounds like a lovely friendship.

(Tho the fact he was gay, even if not out, would have broadly precluded a relationship).

EarringsandLipstick Absolutely. Though from the outside, people had a huge problem about why we didn't get together as we were so well 'matched' Grin. Including our various partners during our 20's.

ive had both sides. I had a male best friend for decades who I then developed feelings for, turned out he had had feelings all along, we had a fling, it ended badly.

have another male best friend of 28 years and never had even a sniff of anything else, he’s good friends with DH, often comes to family things, dotes on DS.

Oh ffs didn’t realise this was an old thread, it popped up in active?!

Whu · 13/08/2023 17:15

@EarringsandLipstick do you think that bisexuals are incapable of any friendships then?!
Ridiculous to think 2 people can’t be friends without sexual attraction being an issue!

My brother is my absolute best pal. We share the same sense of humour, same taste in films, same hobby. I'm also really good pals with his best friend, also a man. We hang out as a 3 a lot, and I also hang out with our mutual friend just the 2 of us. Dh totally coincidentally works with friend's wife and they're good pals, often eat lunch together. People think we're quite weird and probably swapping partners. But we're not. We're not nearly that interesting.
