Ever feel like you "fancy" a song? (I know this sounds weird)

I bloody love music and sometimes I get so obsessed with a song (or even a bit in a song) I almost feel like I have a crush on it... poor way to describe it, but like when you just want it on loop and it makes your heart feel warm? I'm the only one aren't I. Anyone else had this?

Ed Sheeren Bad Habits, played it a million times and I love it 😍

BlurpBlorp · 18/10/2021 22:12

I know what you mean OP. This song gives me goosebumps... Like the early days of falling in love Smile m.youtube.com/watch?v=FvzNeh4Mq1o

INeedNewShoes · 18/10/2021 22:32

Yep I get it!

Often wondered what the neighbours think when I'm playing a song for the 7th time running.

AllTheSunshine · 18/10/2021 22:34

Yep.
On a loop sometimes.

Taoneusa · 18/10/2021 22:38

Yes!!! This happens when I rediscover a song I haven't heard for ages. At the minute it's Kate Bush - A Woman's Worth. What is the one you're crushing on just now OP?

Lilolily · 18/10/2021 22:46

Absolutely get exactly what you mean!

This is mine right now : m.youtube.com/watch?v=j7sTHoeH0eA

@custardcat85 I'm crushing on my rediscovery of Kate Bush too.
I love it when a song gets me like this OP, I know exactly what you mean.

This song meant so much to me when I heard it, it never occurred to me to watch the video, thank you.

Yes OP. A song that forms a part of your soul...it's definitely a thing. One early one for me was Crowded House "Whispers and Moans". It doesn't make me think of a person, just that feeling.

100%
Purple rain by Potter Payper

Animood · 18/10/2021 23:09

Yeah I have "comfort songs". Like comfort food but calorie free. I listen when I need to sooth myself.

Bloodylovecheese · 18/10/2021 23:17

Oh yes! I'm glad it's not just me. Current faves are Starlight by Yola, 4-5 seconds Rihanna et al and There is a light that will never go out The Smiths
I feel drunk happy while singing them

HeartvsBrain · 18/10/2021 23:54

Almost anything sung by Israel Kamakawoowoo (sorry if mispelt), but particularly Somewhere over the Rainbow segueing into What a Wonderful World, and Twinkle Twinkle little Star; they make me sob every time. I think his voice is mesmerizing, I have loved his character when I have watched him in interviews and read about him, and I am so sad that he died at such a young age. I feel so much for all his loved ones, he was very Spiritual and said in interviews that he wasn't afraid of dying - I think that many of his elders had died too young before him. I don't listen to him all the time, I keep him as something to look forward to on special occassions, because he is so special. I am even contemplating learning Hawaiian so that I can understand all his songs, but my heart seems to understand them anyway.

Really, start by learning his name. Or even just googling and copy/pasting. It is SO fucking rude when people make up shit for names because they're a bit foreign.
HeartvsBrain · 18/10/2021 23:57

It's Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. I felt I couldn't check while I was actually writing about him (?), but owed it to him to get it right afterwards!

FoxgloveSummers · 19/10/2021 14:46

Awww YES I was worried it was just me! @BlurpBlorp would you believe that was the first dance at my wedding?!

Besotted is def the right word @Taoneusa - and "drunk happy" also describes it @Bloodylovecheese. Funny you mention Rihanna as her stuff often makes me feel euphoric which is a slightly different feel to the kind of ...longing some other tracks give me.

Thanks for sharing your current crushes! Totally agree it can often be something you rediscover. This is mine - heard another song by the same artist on Sex Education and it reminded me of this weird gem.

@HeartvsBrain it's beautiful the way you write about him.

Some people's voices really get me in the feelings in a way it's just impossible to explain

Yes, also go through periods of intensely listening to a specific genre of music, and during those times, I wonder how I could ever enjoy listening to any other genre ever again…it’s very weird, but often tied into the seasons and memories associated to certain times of the year (e.g. much more likely to listen to 80s music in Autumn and 90s music in summer…god, I sound like such a weirdo!)

FoxgloveSummers · 19/10/2021 15:17

I don't think that's weird Shellfish - I have playlists for different times of the day as well, there are some songs that are e.g. great for listening to on a bus (The Boy With The Arab Strap by Belle & Sebastian, and America by Paul Simon actually mention bloody buses, just saying), or for walking, so why not seasons as well?

I get this all the time. I obsess over songs.

Have listened to Greg Dulli and Mark Lanegan's cover of Girl from the North Country about five times today.
