I'm probably talking about something most people know.. I'm not tech savvy! Thought I'd share anyway
If you press the button on the top RH side 5 times quickly, an alarm sounds and 999 will be dialled( police can trace phone if you can't speak/ or have fallen

Yep. Nearly did this the other day when I temporarily forgot which side of the phone the volume button was on. Bloody terrifying!! 🤣

My DS1 showed me at the weekend
I almost needed an ambulance for shockGrin

Yes, I did this by mistake once Blush

It also alerts your emergency contacts.

So I had both my dad and DH ringing me in a panic Blush

RamblingFar · 18/10/2021 19:15

Friend did this by accident. Had a massive search party out for her - police, helicopters, coastguard...

Was very embarrassed when she discovered what had happened.

WutheredOut · 18/10/2021 19:18

Yup a friend accidentally rang it. Switched offphone then went to bed, only to be woken by the police a little later knocking the door.
It is a great idea but somewhat flawed!

TwoMountains · 18/10/2021 19:20

DH accidentally trouser dialled 999 a few weeks ago with this!

He was complaining about it for days afterwards because he said it was impossible to disable it

stalkersaga · 18/10/2021 19:34

You can activate this on Android too, and choose how it is triggered and who it dials.

IfImLyingImDying · 18/10/2021 19:35

I’ve done it by accident when my phone froze. It’s way too easy!! So embarrassing…..

MagentaRocks · 18/10/2021 19:39

Can I just say that if you do dial 999 by accident and realise it don't hang up. Please stay on the phone and speak to the operator. So much time is spent researching the number before trying to call the number back.

2020isnotbehaving · 18/10/2021 19:39

It’s far to easy if in middle
Of night you are trying adjust volume with eyes closed and get the phone the wrong way round!

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 18/10/2021 19:41

Apple watch has this feature, as I discovered when moving my washing from the washing machine to the tumble dryer and it was pushing on the side button. Quickly googled how to disable that one

Siriisatwat · 18/10/2021 20:26

It’s a pain in the arse when you are trying to turn on/off guided access and do it by accident (the same button but three times).

Luckily I always manage to stop it before it makes the call.

JesterMcFester · 18/10/2021 20:31

Can you send emergency contacts your location message without a 999 call anyway?

I wish that was a feature as I have epilepsy and dont need a 999 call but do need a friend to come and get me.

Sports watches can do this...

Redcrayons · 18/10/2021 20:34

I’ve done it by accident a couple of times when I upgraded my phone. The noise it makes! Luckily turned it off before it dialed.

I’ve also taken a million screenshots as I can’t get used to not having a home button anymore.
