Lantern fairy lights and wind chimes

So neighbours have rented out their house for 2 years this summer.

Great - but the new neighbours have now got lantern fairy lights in the garden in seemingly only the space below my bedroom and they've also got sodding wind chimes too!

They often leave the ghastly fairy lights on overnight and yes they do shine through my curtains.

I could move rooms but really I don't want to.

Is killing them the only answer?!

I'd not mind any of that!
They sound like they are looking after the place and making a home.

The thing is - the fairy lights were there before - and always turned off - e.g. before midnight which is reasonable.

Wind chimes are a new addition and yes, they're bloody annoying.

@Rugsofhonour

That would drive me mad. Can you speak to the owners of the house?
I'm not sure I really want to email/text etc the owners to complain. Might just do so to the renters.

Just get blackout blinds or curtains. Wind chimes do tend to go missing mysteriously sometimes though.... 😉

Wind chimes are the work of the devil, so YANBU there.
Pretty fairy lights…..but thicker curtains.

FindingMeno · 18/10/2021 14:34

I would seriously try to get to know them if you haven't already.
Would be much better to ask once you've established a bit of friendliness than straight up complain which might not have the desired outcome.

I already have blackout curtains. I like my room pitch black!

They've been here since August. Have been perfectly friendly.

However, just heard a rather loud row (in French) - the DH is French and his DM and her DP are staying over.

Not very good black out blinds if some delicate little fairy lights shine through them then!

They're Next black out curtains but might get black out blinds too.

The fairy lights aren't the tiny ones - they're quite large lantern ones and strung right across the area of garden which my window looks out onto.

The wind chimes are bloody annoying though. I thought they were despised on MN?!

I'll give them a few days and if they don't turn off I'll speak to them or my neighbours who are renting the house out.

Yeah IMO black out curtains are rubbish because they never close the gap enough

And…. I quite like the sound of wind chimes….. sorry MN. I’ll see myself out.

Little update here - so after night 2 of those bloody fairy lights being on all night I mentioned it to the DW of the neighbours who will now ensure they are switched off overnight.

I mentioned the wind chimes and she said she'd move them round to the other side of the house but confessed to me they were starting to irritate her too so she might remove them completely. She said they were a belated housewarming gift from her MIL who's just been staying.

Awww, glad it's been sorted amicably!

I hope my neighbours don't hate me, we've got several lots of solar lights in the garden, and some wooden wind chimes.
